When do the new ceo and Kevvie start work? This preseason does not feel like enough time to fix anything.

Kevvie started not long after he was appointed (although he started getting paid 6 days ago when his contract commenced)

new CEO, Likely Donaghy, will start in january

Have we actually had any good signings in recent years? I'd agree Bird may well be the worst signing ever. At least we managed to get rid of Barba and Kennedy. This guy has hung around like a bad smell getting paid handsomely for providing nothing AND then taking a player option and having the hide to ask for us to cover the difference so he can go back to Sydney.

What a jerk.
Yep that’s the part that had me fuming when these rumours started ages ago. You take up your option for a million a year then head back to Sydney expecting the Broncos to pick up the tab, if you wanted to go back don’t take your option up **** head.

But if we aren’t covering anything then all the best Jack ha.

Doesn't seem to be too much love for Benji, but if we had the money I'd take him - probably try and talk him down to 300-350 but honestly if 400 is what it takes, pay the man

They do, it would be much better if Melbourne actually grew the game in Melbourne instead of picking the eyes out of everywhere else. For heavens sake the Roosters have more local juniors than the Storm.
The problem the roosters have with local juniors is that they cant commit to a full pre season because theyre committed to the mardi gras

The experience would be amazing BUT this team needs strong defenders from 1-17 before even thinking about attack. I like him as an option but I think the cons outweigh the pros...

For me, factoring in value for money I'd be looking at Capewell (although his cost may have went up after origin unfortunately), asiata (not a massive fan but I can appreciate that they are trying to give us more diversity in the middle and he's a strong defender), drinkwater (I'd take him over Allen by a long margin, but he's more likely if we target 2022 with a hope for an early release), Elijah Taylor (cheap, strong defemder, bit of ball playing, experienced), Copley (depth, cheap, good attitude)...

Id also chuck in gagai if a decent chunk of his wage got paid (possibility due to souffs cap troubles, although Roberts sacrificing***** his contract frees up their cash *cough nothing suss AGAIN for souffs NRL cough*.. I know he doesn't play AS WELL at club level but he is turning into a bit of a QLD legend, someone that the young guys might look up to and he might turn in some stronger performances playing in the Broncos jersey at Suncorp anyway), and grant is a pipe dream, won't happen (but I also think turpin is NOT A BAD OPTION AT ALL, he hardly played last year and when he did he was obviously injured or not fully fit/recovering. He will run the ball more when he is fully fit).

If we got ALL of the above players I'd be willing to let go of Macca (great attitude and defence but 600,000 for a back up hooker with no impact off the bench... no), oates (he may recapture his form someday but I don't think it will be at the Broncos, seems to have a poor attitude), bird (gone already, would have liked to have kept him but not for the money he was on and not if we can get another player out of it, purely due to the risk of injury (he won't get one now for the rest of his career I bet lol)), ofa (see oates above). The above together with whatever we had set aside for fifita (we may have had 750 but no way we had nothing despite the media bs), and boyds retirement would allow us to buy the other players with some shrewd accounting. If it isn't, and only if we could get all of the above, I'd try get something for lodge. I like him and he will be great again, ppl forget how good he was for us and how much he helped haas, but he's on a bit of coin, may be wanted, and I think Walter's way of coaching could be helped by having more queenslanders in the team (Walter's will push identity and passion). Trheres no way of re-sign luke, teo I would.

Also, for re-signings, I'd prioritise dearden over staggs. Premiership teams are built around spine players, not highlight reel players. You need players like staggs to win them but you don't build the team around them.

We need to stop trying to sign superstars and think about value for money. The superstars haven't worked for us for literally decades. Develop the superstars, buy the solid and reliable first graders to help them develop...

Anyone got the info from the courier mail online article "Broncos to splash cash" up just now? I know it's probably bs but.... It's the off season, so....

Doesnt say much really. Basically Kevvie just saying he is going to look at whats available to replace him. I think we have missed the boat personally, nothing on the market.

Maybe...but there could be new opportunities at this time of year.

Dean Whare is who I'd be looking at. He's not in Penriths plans for '21 and is defence orientated specialist right side centre that will cover until Staggs is back .

I also think Sua is gettable. South's have too many high calibre middle forwards and I can see them being open to release him if he's coming back:

8. Tatola
10. Burgess
11. Murray
12. Sironen
13. Arrow

14. Keoan
15. Knight
16. Sele

I really rate Clifford and think we should have a crack if he's still being moved on.

Capewell is also ripe for picking.

These are players that can all be bought in if we play our cards right:

Allan
Capewell
Su’A
Lui
Whare
Asiata
Copley

The last two based on the fact they are apparently already signed.

This is gettable for next season and while not making us contenders, will point us in the right direction.

Then go for the 2022/23 marquee targets.

I think Drinkwater is more gettable than Clifford following the backflip of Clifford to the knights.

I was pretty shocked to see that they were happy to get rid of Clifford and thought the cows would be looking to set him up as part of their halves moving forward.

Drinkwater on the other hand has Val in front of him for fullback and is back competing with Clifford for a halves spot. Morgan will have a mortgage on the other and his contract is largely immovable based on his form since signing it.

Drinkwater is left footed (I believe), which lends itself to left side halves play (if Milf gets moved on)... Otherwise I think he is miles ahead of our current fullback options. I would also suggest that he was up there as one of the cowboys brightest sparks in attack this year. He made some errors, but that could be more about most of it being on his shoulders to create and working within Green's rigid attacking structures.

I have been a massive advocate of Capewell for months now and feel like he should be a serious target for us... Ipswich lad (Kevvie!!) very capable second rower, but has just never been given a start at Sharks or Panthers, and he is now behind Yeo and Martin. Plus Panthers want cap space. I think he could come to us on a modest contract and be an automatic starter in our second row.

Sua should be a 2022 target (not sure souths will let him walk at this stage).

I'm not sold on Whare... He's reasonable in defence, but he's a massive hog (all centers from Penrith seem to be). He also doesn't have a lot of work rate and is getting on in age a bit (31 in January '21). I think he's also had a bit of an injury history... looking at Wiki he had a calf tear and ACL in 2016, but I recall him always having niggles and missing games here and there throughout the season:
13 games in 2015
1 game in 2016
16 games in 2017
22 games in 2018
18 games in 2019
8 games in 2020 (not necessarily injuries)

He's a reasonable player, but we're not getting a rolled gold seasoned vet like BMoz, JMoz, Michael Jennings, etc. If he wants to come for like $200k maybe he's worth it

What about Keegan Hipgrave. Apparently not wanted by Titans. Would be a good addition if you ask me.

He has always seemed like a super low IQ player.

Low IQ but high passion. We could use a bit more grit and effort around the club, 2 areas he certainly doesn't lack. Would have no issue bringing him back for minimum wage.

Don't rate at all from his titans games.

He's a penalty magnet and error prone... not that great in defence.

Just dont see that he brings much of anything other than energy and aggression... but there's no real point running around like a headless chook if you have no skill to back it up with.
