I have to say this, good start from Kevvie ... he already has the Sydney media labeling us as arrogant ... feels like the old days
Because the luxury of having Smith means you can have lesser value players in other positions, that is what makes him greatWhy not. If Melbourne can afford Smith, Smith and Grant on their books.
He has the leverage here because we need to generate a result out of him this year, whereas he's already contractually guaranteed to get his best result out of us.He wont get that kind of money, but at the same time if he wants out as badly as they are saying, he would have to make sacrifices. In terms of his situation and contract, his problem is he cant force us to do anything, same as we cant force him to do anything. We both have legal obligations.
Yes this was my thought. The tone of the response likely indicates that Brisbane, finally, have assumed some negotiating power. A refreshing change!I have to say this, good start from Kevvie ... he already has the Sydney media labeling us as arrogant ... feels like the old days

Yes but we can also make him train with the rehab group and not medically clear him fit to play. Forcing him to sit on the sideline for a year. Good luck on your next contract when you have played 17 games across 4 years.
Yes, but we've also self sabotaged our salary cap by around a million dollars if we do that. He's honestly got us bent over a barrel here.Yes but we can also make him train with the rehab group and not medically clear him fit to play. Forcing him to sit on the sideline for a year. It’s got me stressedOur best half pairing have always had at least 1 home grown guy in there, speaking of which...
Whens Dearden re-signing..?
It’s got me stressed
Or, you know, let him play knowing he is doing so for a contact in 2022 and potentially get the best out of a bad situation...
We don't know if these numbers are true, we don't know if Bird is desperate to leave or would just do so if the opportunity was there, and likewise for Kevvie to offload him. But sure, let's be petulant children, throw the toys out of the cot, and sit a cool mill on the sidelines all year when he might actually contribute something on the field in a very meaningful way.
Paying 900k for a hooker who doesnt want to play hooker...How about this deal? (Assuming we cannot get Grant or C Smith for 2021)
2021 - Offer Bird to Dragons in direct swap with Ben Hunt. Broncos to pay excess of Hunt's 1.2 mill salary (say $250K). Bird gets his release, Dragons get Bird and save a couple of hundred grand for next season. We are out of pocket about $250K on top of what we would have paid for Bird next year but it solves a fairly decent hole in our squad.
2022 & 2023 - Hunt's large contract now becomes our problem but Dragon's could and should be convinced to pay $250k per season for the remaining length of that ridiculous contract which means our financial commitment to Hunt would be around $950k per year for 2 years. By then we may have moved on from Milford or potentially reduced his contract. In Hunt we get a tough, experienced, representative, 80 minute hooker with a kicking game. He is also a ready-made half should we need coverage. He also has Broncos in his blood. Dragons then have around a million a year freed up to re-sign a resurgent Bird or someone else. I reckon that's not a bad deal for both clubs.

He doesn't strike me as someone who would chuck a hissy if he was asked to play in his non-preferred position. If he is, clearly we don't want him. He can stay at the dragons and play hooker down there under Griffin.Paying 900k for a hooker who doesnt want to play hooker...
Since 2007.I know it a bit random but, when was the last time we had a top tier halves combination besides the pan flash of Milford and Hunt ?
