Charity Shield *spoilers*

What my updates not good enough :)

Boyd playing 5/8 and doing a good job steering them around. Good kicking and passing... Possible move in 2012?

Speaking of Boyd, scores a good try from 20 out splitting 3 players and scored in the corner.

Kick miss

22-10 dragons

57 gone.

Dragons score again Ratu Peni Tagive scores in the corner and destroys his opposite number by walking over him... Harshly :)

28-10 dragons

60 gone

Small image lol

Sound huh, think of the foxsports boys dribbling shit, a bit of a crowd burbble, the refs nasal whine... HELLLLD! and the occasional smacking of bodies together .... Greenfield scores for the dragons.

Score 32-10

6 to go. Fat lady said **** it and went home.

Pretty boring game TBH.

Which is to be expected from a trial.

I hope it is just the cleaning of the cobwebs for some Souths players. It just shows how well a Bennett coached team is, they dropped so much ball and still put a good score on us. Though defence won them that game. Either way it is great to just have footy back.

Only saw the second half of a game between two of top three hated teams (Souffs climbed that ladder really quick [icon_shady ).
Although they were missing Dave Taylor, Burgess (the good one), Merritt and the fat... pardon, Injured Inglis, the Dragons were missing Weyman, Soward and Brett Morris, so no excuses for the fact that the dragons were so much better.

In the 1,6,7 and 9 jerseys, the bunnies only have one quality player in Issac Luke, a 5/8 that plays a good game once in a while, a sufferable HB and probably the worst FB in the NRL at the moment.
So, in all honesty, I can't see them being a threat for the premiership, although they probably will put teams through the sword on a good day!

The Dragons are coached by Benny. Nuff said! [icon_shru

wtf, this was on tv? why? why aren't our trials on tv?

Wesser the worst fullback in the comp in the moment? I know nearly every club has a talented Fullback, but Wesser has a top year last year and I wouldn't put him as the worst.
Okay, who then? I mean, even Kidley is better! [icon_evillaugh
Hoffman, Slater, Dugan, Coote, Boyd, Bowen, Campbell, Gardner, Minichiello, Moltzen, Stewart, Hohaia, Stayne, and Barba will surely be better too.

Why are we comparing him to guys like Stewart and Barba? Barba has played mostly halfback so you can't compare him to Barba. and Stewart hasn't played in nearly 2 years. You can compare him to Michael Robertson though who played a bit of fullback last year, and he was certainly better than him. So you can compare him to Luke Patten though and he was in much better form than Patten last year. He was also in much better form than Preston Campbell or William Zillman last year. He was better than McKinnon, Ryan and Brown who all had stints at Fullback at the Tigers last year. Bowen has nothing more than average last year, I'd definitely have him over Bowen.

Wesser was better than around 5-6 fullbacks last year. He had a good season.

The quality of fullbacks in our competition though is quite remarkable though. It's a tough gig, because you start getting compared to other fullbacks, and they're all pretty much good.[/quote:1jo3xd0d]
Oh gee sorry, I thought we were talking about this upcoming season, not last year... [icon_razz1

But the underlined section made me shiver... I would prefer Matty Bowen on one leg to Wesser, even last year!

Wesser is a good fullback. Obviously he's not Rhys Wesser circa 2003 but I would have him over Campbell, Zillman, Gardener, Moltzen and Hohaia.

Based on 2010 Wesser had an indifferent season, he definitely wasn't the worst FB running around (that honour belongs to either Farrar or Bowen) but the signs were there that his days were slowly being numbered.

Also sorry to correct you Porthoz but Weyman DID actually play yesterday, he just didn't get too many minutes. Hornby, Young, Stanley and Scott didn't though.

On the flipside, missing from your list of absent South Sydney players are Talanoa, Luke, Crocker, Stuart and I think McPherson so it all balances out.

Don't know why people bother reading into the results of these games, performances are far more ideal and I thought a few players stood up for both sides yesterday.

EDIT: Over Gardner? Seriously? I'd much prefer a kid who has the future well and truly ahead of him as opposed to behind him like Wesser. Also you'd be silly (or Tim Sheens) to consider Moltzen at fullback, he's a damn fine halfback.

If the Tigers don't put Moltzen at FB (and I do agree he's a damn fine HB), they will have the worst FB in the comp. If I was Sheens, I'd prefer Lui at HB with Moltzen at FB, given the other FB options... [icon_shru

As I said previously, I was talking about the upcoming season, and what would be the first choice FB option at each club. The only doubt is how Barba will perform, because the rest is better IMO.

I only saw the second half of the charity shield, and I didn't see Weyman. I did obviously forget Luke's absence, which is of major importance for the bunnies, but it doesn't affect my conclusion regarding their central axis, where they lack quality in the 1 and 7 mainly, and have a very inconsistent 5/8. To me that makes them non contenders for the premiership, although they will be a force to be reckoned with on a good day.
Any team with Luke, Burgess, Taylor, Merritt, Inglis, Sutton (on a good day), Farrell (who looks the goods) and the rest of a good forward pack, is a team to be wary of.

I'd go as far as to say Sutton and Sandow represent the worst value halves combination in the league. Inconsistent, and very capable of an absolute shocker. They're not a pair you can bank on for a premiership and I guarantee if Bennett takes charge next year, one will be shown the door, and a typical Bennett-style player will fit in there. That is, someone who can follow a plan and execute it without fail (eg, Ben Hornby).
