NEWS Club legend breaks his silence

Huh, he said exactly that. He said how do you resign TPJ, Lodge and Haas first and let Fifita go? I honestly don't know what you are getting at.
Can't help you beyond encouraging you to read the actual words he wrote, and this time not inserting an implied smear into the sentence, but instead imagine he's talking about priorities. Which, of course, he was. It's not that profound.

Phil gould made a decent point about this actually, We should of signed him on a big contract 2 years ago, we didn't even bother trying to resign him untill the last year, we correctly did this with Haas and we knew Fifita was a big talent even before he got into the starting side.

If we signed him on a 'big contract' two years ago, Gus and the rest of the media would be slamming us for giving too much money to a young, inexperienced player with no runs on the board.

What do they mean "breaks his silence" ... he hasn't shut up since his mate missed out on the job.

he has been trying his best to undermine and destabilize the club since seibs was hired

He would have to take a breath during his rants so I assume that was the silence he was breaking.

But wasn’t that because of his management issue? An issue that suddenly fixed itself when a multi million dollar deal was tabled.
That was well after he had already started playing for us.

If we had of gave him a 5 year deal on around 700k when he started with us he would of taken it.

If Payne Haas was on a 2 year deal and this was his last year and we offered him 600k(his contract now) do you think he would be ok with that?

I thought the only reason he was signing 1 year deals was so he could get a new management deal and then sign a longer term contract next year?

No, at the start of 2018 he signed a 2 year extension that took him till now, that was a huge mistake by us and should of been longer.

Yet, in the same breath, people on here have been critical of the long contracts we have signed players to. It has not worked out well for us with Boyd, Milford, Gillett or Bird has it?

None of those players had any potential to go up in value though did they.

It's not like Teams go in blind with star youngsters, they are watching them for years and they are often training with the main squad for ages before they even debut.

Yeah but sure bets aren't always sure bets. Look at Milford, it is easier to say now what a terrible deal it was but at the time everyone was sure he was going to be one of the best in the game. That's the danger with long contracts and especially ones on massive money.

No-one wants to admit it because the Titans fans don't want to think about it and Broncos fans hate the management but the Fifita deal is a massive risk. There is a good chance that he continues to improve, stays injury free and comes close to living up to that money. The is also a massive chance that he becomes complacent and/or is weighed down by the expectation that money money brings. When you break it down he is paid something like 40k a game, that is more than what players are paid for origin. You don't get to have off games at 40k a game, hell you don't even get to have good games at 40k a game. At 40k a game you need to be integral to the win. It is easy to remember the games where Fifita busts the line and scores a try that only he can score but we all forget the games where he is barely sighted and does very little. Those games are fine when you are a developing player on reasonable money but by becoming one of the highest paid players ever and the highest paid forward ever he can't have those games.

The other concern for Fifita is his whole game is built on strength and agility, outside of that he is low work-rate with no ball playing ability. Strength and agility is all he needs at the moment and maybe he does develop ball playing and ups his workrate. If he doesn't though age and injuries could take that strength and agility and all of a sudden you have a 400k backrower collecting nearly 12% of your salary cap.
