Roberts got a bit of a bum rap, a lot of it not deserved. He had that shocker against Copley and everyone decided that it's been happening all year and Roberts was hopeless. In my opinion anyway, his defence was pretty solid. Better than I expected for someone so enigmatic, and a lot more consistent than his attack.
As for his attack, there would have been half a dozen tries scored just because of his presence there - the defence hanging off Boyd or Kahu and getting burnt. Roberts has to be well marked and any hesitation against him often spooks the rest of the defence. And geez, when he did get space, no one could touch him. If he can learn from Hodges, and pick his moments better in terms of running from dummy half, he'll be even more dangerous and be able to grab a game by the balls instead of waiting for the ball(s) to come to him.
Was he perfect? Of course not. He was down a few tries compared to his previous season at the Titans, but a fellow poster here correctly pointed out the difference was intercepts - he was often shooting out of the line for the Tits, and for every intercept he got he probably conceded a try or a line-break or two when he got it wrong and allowed an overlap. Bennett's stricter policy in defence might have cost us a bit in attack but more than made up for it in our relatively solid right-side defence. And all of this while struggling with personal problems. If he can come back with a clear head, he'll have a breakout year and potentially a NSW jersey.
