Queensland forward Neville Costigan has become the first real casualty of St George Illawarra's plan to re-sign former Kangaroos centre Mark Gasnier to a long-term deal.

And it's understood he won't be the last. Costigan will quit the Dragons at the end of the season after signing a three-year deal with the Newcastle Knights worth more than $650,000.

I reckon this will be the first of a fair few signings for the Knights.

Looks like Wayne wants Beau Scott back in the back row.

Yep, especially with Gasnier joining them.

Bloody hell that St George backline is scary.

2. Morris
3. Cooper
4. Gasnier

Gasnier will be joining them this year it seems, they will go a long way to winning this years comp.

TBH the only team who are a real chance of stopping St George this year is us, on our day we can beat them and perhaps an in form Penrith as well. Would be awesome to knock them out of the finals again :D

Yeh this year's comp is the least open out of any for a long time I think. St George are the standouts, with Broncos, Tigers and Panthers (in no order) on the next level, and after that, well I honestly think teams like Souths, Titans, Roosters, Eels are just making up the numbers, and teams like Raiders, Sharks, Cowboys have about as much hope as Melbourne do.

I assume you mean back 5 in which case they are slightly better on paper but there's a lot of other parts of the game which will determine how well they play and I believe overall we have them covered, paper and in practice.

They are more consistent but consistency doesn't win finals games where St Merge inevitably choke and Broncos rise :)

Anyway a bit off topic lol.

Costigan would be a good signing for the knights, they should be a lot more competitive next year with the signings they have and will make.

Don't forget promising youngsters Beau Henry and the awesomely named, Siuatonga Likiliki.

That's surprising that Bennett's letting Cotigan go, I always thought Wayne loved Neville in some questionable way, to let him go to put together scratch for Gasnier seems out of character, next thing you know, he'll push out Priddo

Hopefully Costigan can take his game to another level at the Knights. Knights are in a re-building faze and need some good signings.
