It has been reported today in the Sunday Mail (page 111) that Craig Wing has pulled a sonny bill and will not honour the remaining 3 years of his rabbitohs contract by going over to europe to play French Rugby Union.

One interesting part of the article was his current contract amount at the rabbitohs

$250,000 per season + $100,000 per season through 3rd party deals (something old Russ is pretty tidy at lining up).

It seams he had got a bit slack with his 3rd party commitments and wasn't being paid the extra 100K so he's been just earning the 250K, combine that with some dodgy overseas investments he's made and he's desperate for cash aparently.

The other interesting side to this story is I can't seam to find anything online to collaborate this ?? Is it just this is so red hot its not out yet or has the Sunday mail run a story without really knowing the facts?

Now this is my purely my opinion but...

Expect Reni Maitua to sign with the rabbitohs for 09,
Expect a hell of a lot of pressure on sandow, the poor bugger either gets injured or gets into some drink drink, punch punch kind of trouble and the bunny's season will go down the drain quick in the absence of anouther true playmaker.

Troubling news

Courier Mail had an article on it about a fortnight ago.

ABC also had the story

I think it's less a case of Craig Wing pulling a Sonny Bill and more a case of South Sydney pulling a being a shit football club.

Also, Wing has been upfront that he's looking at moving on to Union if things don't pan out as per his contract (ie the 3rd party payments); unlike Sonny Bill who continued to assure everyone he was staying and ran away in the middle of the night.

yeah I know... still a couple of years ago wing would of had a large mob of green and red vigilanties knocking on his door with flaming torches... its like the sonny bill thing has desensitised us all to this kind of slacker loyalty. Its sad really.

no sadder than me leaving my job to take up another offer (especially if my current employer doesn't fulfill my contract). People have to realise that playing football is these guys job and stop expecting more from them than we do from other professions.

How have they not stood up to their end of the deal? He had to work 38 hours a week to get the extra cash. He didn't do it.

I'm not saying they haven't I don't know the details of the contract but all the reports about the issue, including from Souths themselves, have said that there is some questions over whether all the 3rd party sponsorship deals will come through in full. You also don't know that he was expected to work 38 hours a week to get the payments, contract may have just said he has to be a registered South Sydney Football Club player. (More likely it is x number of appearances on behalf of the company/ies paying the cash).

38 hours a week is a bit much when he is a full time football player. That seems pretty unreasonable, if it was me I would have turned the offer down. I thought it was 15 hours a week which would be reasonable.

I don't want to think about Craig Wing pulling SBW.

eusa_think I hope Wing goes, he is a tool and hasn't played good footy in 4 or 5 years. Its only the Rabbits.

'Craig Wing will still be at South Sydney despite sponsor dispute'
By Dean Ritchie
December 16, 2008 SOUTH Sydney are adamant star player Craig Wing will be at the club in 2009 - and again for 2010 and 2011.

Wing has been in dispute with a third-party sponsor, McGrath's real estate company, amid speculation he has yet to be paid.

It is understood Wing has a $100,000 contract with well-known Sydney real estate agent John McGrath - a deal which helped lure Wing back to Souths.

Sources claim the deal has fallen through over terms of the contract.

But Souths chief executive Shane Richardson said Wing would be at Redfern next season.

"Craig hasn't approached us to leave the club so nothing has changed," Richardson said.

"He is a major part of our plans and we are charging forward. He still has three years to run."

Asked would Wing be at Souths next year, Richardson said: "Absolutely. I understand Craig is working through it with McGraths."

Richardson also said his club had shown interest in signing sacked Bulldogs lock Reni Maitua.

ASSASSIN - With the current economic crisis starting to hit big business across the board I wouldn't be surprised if you see a number of companies try to get out of their exhuberant 3rd party deals they probebly made when times were roseyer.

Yeah, I heard isn't not them that's broken contract, it's him. Part of the deal was that he works for them, which he didn't do.

hahaha ahhh dear....guys...i think they took gullible out of the dictionary.
