Hasn't been at his best in recent weeks. He was sensational in the early rounds though.

He's been very good in a couple of games. His form is definitely down but I think Toovey taking over as coach and Manly's generally poor play this year has been a bigger factor. The Manly spine has been in flux all year. When Stewart and Foran return and Manly get back to full strength I think you will see him playing very well again.

At the same time though, I think that goes to show he's a Cherry on top type of player at the moment (pun somewhat intended). When the rest of the team is going strong he will play lights out, but when the team isn't he hasn't (yet) got the ability to lead his team to where they need to go. A flaw in his game, but not 2nd year syndrome, per se. At least in IMO.

Unsure if you were being serious or not Coxy but a fair question.

I don't think this is second year syndrome. As others have pointed out he's had his share of quality performances through out this year including and not limited to the Warriors, Tigers & Panthers. The problem is he's being relied on too much from a struggling Manly side that's falling short on troops. With them resurfacing last night and the coming weeks it wouldn't surprise me to see DCE produce a spat of quality performances.

Second year syndrome doesn't necessarily mean they're crap all year. They can start well then plateau and drop off in form late in the year (as Foran has done previous seasons). And that's what I'm wondering if we're seeing. Evans looked pedestrian last night against the Bulldogs. His kicking game was poor. He had no options with the ball in hand. Got smashed, manhandled.

I just wonder if we're seeing him go into his first real form slump - second year syndrome - and whether or not he can pull himself out of it.

Now that Manly have increased his pay I hope he Daniel Mortimers.

I think there is some second year syndrome at play but that's part of the learning curve.

He's got a rubbish coach, he's missed Foran's subtle help and he can't fly under the radar any more so the expectations have increased tremendously. That's a lot of pressure to deal with but I think he'll handle it and we'll see more of what we saw last season.

I think the difference between him and Mortimer is that he has shown that he is a genuine half. Mortimer is just a fullback with no fullback skills.

I think he's missing Foran. Other teams know he's the go to guy and he's getting pressured. Ala Scott Prince. Bring Foran back into the team and Cherry won't be shouldering the load and the defence will be in two minds...........

Manly haven't been as good, the forwards haven't been as dominant as they were last year, a couple of rookies in the back row isn't helping either. Bring Tony Williams back, Glenn Stewart a few more games and Watmeow refinding his form will also help DCE.

Not saying he's not avoiding 2nd year syndrome - but I think it'll be more like Matt Gillett's second year (unfortunate circumstances stopping him from recapturing his stellar first year form) rather than a Tim Smith/Mortimer scenario.

I have never noticed how good this kids defense is until Friday nite. He took Pritchard on and got him to the ground one-on-one with relative ease...he has had a lot of traffic coming at him this season. No way he is a 2nd year syndrome candidate yet...as mrslong said missing foran and the pack is down a bit, he is the real deal.
