PLAYER Darius Boyd Discussion

I'm sure the new fullback will be an improvement. If he doesn't miss any tackles AND has plenty of try assists that is. He'll also have to chime in and be a part time playmaker but I'm sure anyone can do that! So, only three to go until the teams so much better🙂
May be a good idea not to goad when you've asked to keep it on point about retirement and being critical of him.

i’m not going to be negative on this thread, but a top class fullback who can defend, attack and ball play, should be very high on our list of recruitment priorities moving forward. Maybe even a higher priority than a new hooker...

Boyd couldn't do that, so there is every chance the next fullback could be an improvement.

Give isaako another crack with a coach that lets him pass the ball.

It is an extremely important to get a great fullback but an elite hooker is even rarer. There are only 5 in the comp and Melbourne have three of them.

There are fun fullbacks everywhere - Tedesco, Ponga, RTS, Paps, Edwards, Gutherson, Mitchell, Brimson, Dufty, TTurbo, etc. Basicslly every club except Brisbane has one.

that’s what we thought would be the case but as it turns out, Boyd is still the best fullback at the club.

To be fair I don't think anyone thought guys like Isaako / Niu were going to come in and be an upgrade in attack. Whilst they're more dangerous running the ball, there's absolutely no doubt that Boyd is the best ball playing Fullback at the club.

I think Bird would have been a reasonable upgrade, he's the one guy we did have who has the skill to actually draw and pass while still being a threat running the ball. But we may never know.

With that being said, it's probably a fair indicator of how terrible Darius' has been defending at Fullback over the last couple of years that it took injuries / personal issues from Bird, Isaako, Niu & Milford for him to be moved back there.

Oh I don't know, terrible at fullback was Milford. Average would be fairer for Boyd. Isaako wasn't great at fullback, Nui either so I put removing DB from fullback as another knee jerk, crowd pleasing clusterfuck decision from Halfaharvard Seeplod.

You’re right in a sense. The club never should have re-signed him and instead they should have concentrated on signing or developing a fullback, they didn’t and we were stuck with Darius being our best option (once our better option - Bird, a centre or lock, was again injured), which is just one of many very poor decisions the club has made under the current administration.

Nah, I think we'll stick with terrible for Boyd's defensive efforts.

Not saying that any of those others guys were any better overall, just saying that's why the decision was made to move him to Centre.

The decision was correct to move Darius, it was just unfortunate that our first choice option did his ACL not long before Round 1. Let's hope we can have some better luck next year..

Darius will never be forgotten ... he'll see to that

My god Huge, you just don't squander any opportunity to stick the knife into Milford do you.

Darius Boyd is the classic example of a player playing on too long. He's definitely damaged his legacy, which would have been quite a strong one if he had retired at the optimum time.
He destroyed his legacy at the nights and was the joke of the league for the same shit he’s doing these days. Go back and read articles and fan comments about him at the time, the guy was hated by his own teams fans and laughed at by the fans of other teams. He somewhat redeemed himself by playing as good as he did in 2015, but the sentiment from non-broncos fans were very negative still. If he retires at the end of of 2017, One of rugby leagues least palatable figures would have at least been seen in a fairly positive way by broncos fans, despite everyone else in league seeing him as a meme. Instead he played on and regressed to even worse form than the form that destroyed his reputation during his stint at Newcastle.

He has no reputation to destroy, very few people respect Darius on-field. He could’ve at least broke even with bronco fans but he didn’t, he burnt that final bridge too.

He has no fans in the game outside of Huge, who’s only doing it because he’s on a contrarian kick as of lately.

Ha haha.🤣
I'm not sure you can know I'm his only 'fan'. That said I'm not necessarily a fan but I'm also still able to see the good and bad in all the players to whom I pay attention. Unlike rnabakov I try not to be blinded by my preferences and when you can do that as rnabakov cannot and who looks at Milford through rose coloured glasses and watery lust filled eyes, the object of his desire can do no wrong.

DB hasn't been at his best and yes perhaps he played on too long but he's still a Bronco, one of ours and I like to think we protect our own. Anyway, he's got three games left, can we not be so harsh?

He’s not a bronco to me. He’s a guy who followed around Wayne for whatever reason that might have been. I’m not even against it but he’s no more a bronco than someone like Ennis or the Sims in my eyes. Except he’s done us the disservice of being overpaid, underperforming, and saying all the wrong things for 3 years now.

If I’m forced to say nice things about Darius it’s this, thanks for 2015 and for not seeing out the final year of your disgustingly one-sided contract.
