Darren Lockyer Rested For Final

Sheens quote:
"Billy has as shoulder injury that he has been managing and Darren has taken some pretty heavy knocks and it's well known that at the back end of the season he had some significant issues with injury," Sheens said.

"Darren could play if he had to, but I am very confident with these two lads coming into the side.

"Positions six and one seem to be the argument that everyone is having about the team but there is no doubt that Carney and Boyd have been in better form all year than their counterparts and I don't think we lose anything by giving those two a chance.

"That is why they are in the team."

Seems to me that he is resting them.

In my opinion, the problem isn't with Sheens, it's with the nuffies who decide that they need to selected a 24 (???) man squad for the series. It's a bit harsh to select a 24 man squad, and for the coach not give everyone a chance to prove their worth.

They should have just selected an initial 17 man team for the first game, and made any changes they saw fit for any subsequent games. Why was there a need to selected a squad? It's not like it's a Kangarro tour of years gone by where they are thousands of miles away and couldn't call someone up at short notice, nor is it like a tour where these squad players could prove their worth in mid-week club games.

good lord we couldnt have someone taking lockyers place! especially not the out of form carney who has been dreadful all year.

</sarcasm>
especially not with Lockyers great form over the last month of the regular season and then the finals series.....

Ok I'll bite, so you'll get on Locky's back with sarcasm and therefore obviously you are happy with Slater (God) also being dropped , but of course we will never know as you choose not to comment on Slater

If this is the case Tee I have no problem with it at all, just be interested to see it reported properly but then we all know that won't happen with the media

Agree on this Oxy. Should have named the 17 and told some others to make sure they keep fit just in case they were needed to get called up. However Sheens still has to take some responsibility in that he gets final say on who runs out each game. As I said previously it seems to me he caved to pressure to use everyone at some point during the 4 games, just because they are there.

But if the injury reports are true, it's a more acceptable situation.

Sheens is retarded. Lol at Chris Lawrence being selected too, hopefully it means that he's a walk into the NSW side.

He should have been a walk in this year. Lawrence was one of the best centres this year.

you really love your Tigers players don't you... I bet you watch them train and everything.

I think it is silly to be resting them but oh well what would I know Tim Sheens is the coaching genius

Really all these selections show is that the scheduling of this tournament was poor.

Carney and Boyd both deserve their spots but this match is basically a rehersal for next week and they won't be there at Suncorp.

Why is Petro on the bench?? Read the paper today and they were saying Scott and Shillington to start with Petro to be on the bench

I guess he's trying to blood a team for when all the old bastards bugger off.

I read that Petero was on the bench fighting for his spot, and he'll be lucky to be there next week according to Sheensy. :|

You give him more credit than I do. I just think he's a senile, useless coach.

No disrespect to test footy but these tourny has been a bit ridiculous so far. I'm hoping for an awesome final - but as whats been posted already - overall, when you compare it to Origin and the final series... its a bit meh.

I don't want to use the word 'joke' but if this was Origin - these 'rests' would not happen. Meh. Food for thought.

Yep the scheduling for this tournament has been a complete joke, a shame given the WC and 09 FN were both quite good.
