I've got a horrible feeling he won't be sticking around. I mean if being at the club is as miserable as their body language is suggesting then it's odds on that he takes the big money to go somewhere else.

he doesn't want to leave Brisbane and his family ... so that pretty much leaves the Titans as our only competitor until the NRL bring in the second Brisbane team which will be years off yet.

its actually a pretty smart plan if indeed thats what's happening..

Clearly Dave got the looks & his Mum got the brains in the Fifita family..!

I can only comment on how Badel has been framing news lately, but here's what we're to understand:

1. The Broncos have gone to shit. They're a club without soul led by bumbling nitwits.
2. The coach is incompetent and has no respect of the players. But he's not leaving.
3. Another Brisbane club looms. They will want Fifita.
4. Fifita cares enough about money he doesn't want any, if possible, going to his agent.
5. The Broncos' potential offer is massively under market.
6. Even the Titans can offer him more.
7. The Broncos are no longer a club that can underbid. There's no Wayne Bennett effect.
8. He's close with Payne Haas, who's locked in, at this point.
9. It's not hard to break a contract. All you have to be is difficult to manage.
10. Every club would want both of them on their roster.

As someone who knows nothing other than what I've been reading, I would be expecting another club to make a play for both Haas and Fifita, with a sweetener for the family. Might not be successful, but it would be worth a go.

definitely let Carrigan, Flegler and Of' go elsewhere, and throw whatever Fifita wants to him.

I think we have 5 very special proven talents who stand out from the rest: Farnworth, Coates, Haas, Carrigan aand .. Fifita. Staggs, maybe, so 6

Of those, Fifita is the one we must absolutely not lose. I'd rather him than Milford, amd I am one of Milf's (few) fans around here. Fifita is for mine, irreplaceable. We have to do everything to keep him.

Getting Shaylee up here wouldn’t hurt either

assuming they’re a thing

I know it's only a forum but this comment and any like it are stupid. If those guys are still contracted, the Broncos would likely have to pay some of their salary, counted under the Broncos salary cap. And it doesn't automatically save money because replacements have to be found and paid in place of those 3. Especially Carrigan and Flegler I presume aren't on much money.

It would be really unfortunate to lose Fifita but priority has to go to signing or retaining a high quality fullback, 1/2, 5/8 and hooker. Right now I don't it's too much of a stretch to say in those positions, Broncos are worst in the competition.

I think context here is everything. As I see it, we are developing those positions. The whole point as I understand it is that we are building a new team, a fresh start and for mine that means not ignoring amazing talents like Farnworth and Niu as potential FB's, Dearden and Paix as half or 5/8, Carrigan as lock and future captain, and Turpin as hooker. For the time being, we have Isaako caretaking FB

I'd rather spend on retaining Fifita who is a once in a generation player, an absolute match winner and an inspiration to his team mates, and keeping players like Carrigan and Haas.

Despite the growing pains, this new team should be our focus, even it is a year or two of pain.

Unfortunately, Broncos fans are not patient enough for that

Neither were Eels fans, but it seems some patience is being rewarded. No pain, no gain.

Sometimes, I wonder if our culture is a bit too much about instant gratification.

I dunno man, I don't think 3 or so years counts as instant gratification anymore.

Well, maybe it was instant gratification to make the wrong recruitment and retention choices over the last 3 years instead of carefully planning for the future, which then can repeat an ongoing dynasty for want of a better word, like we had, if done right

I think with Fifita back, which I reckon will inspire Haas and TPJ if not the rest of the team, we will start to see exactly how good this side can be. It might not be to the consistent levels of the top sides with more settled and experienced rosters, but still, we won our 1st two games (we could have lost) against reasonable sides, we did ok for a while against Manly ... and yes, we were flogged by 2 outstanding teams, joint premiership favourites who would have destroyed most sides.

If we don't see these gradual improvements as the season progresses, assuming no more injuries and suspensions to key players, then Seibold will be on thin ice.

Anyway, for mine Fifita (and Haas) should be the centrepiece of this side now and for years to come and deserve first priority for retention

I didn't say anything about "ignoring" anyone. Merely stated what I believe should be the priority.

Interesting ideas about fullback. Isaako was going to "a future superstar fullback" a few years ago. If either becomes a really good fullback, Derdon and Turpin kick on and become a really good 1/2 and hooker, IMO their retention should be the priority even over Fifita. At this moment I have doubts. But way too early to make a confident judgement.

Can't agree about your views on Fifita. Vive la differance!

To determine priorities in this context might infer ignoring those you consider are a lesser priority.
