David Stagg

I thought he was consistantly one of the best. He may not be a flashy player, but he gets the job done which is sometimes all you need.

Yeah no doubt he did a good job a lot better than last year, but I still don't rate him as a lock, and would like to see Glenn get the 13.

13. Glenn
12. Thaiday
11. Te'o

11. Thaiday
12. Parker/Sims
13. Glenn

14. Sims/Parker

18. Te'o

13. Glenn
12. Thaiday
11. Te'o/Parker/Sims/Setu all competing for the one spot

And he could play a prop role similar, though not identical, to Dave Taylor towards the end of 2009. He hasn't got the ball skills of Taylor, but running wide he could really cause havoc.

I have to disagree with the views on Parker, I thought he was one of our better players this year. One of the problems with Parker I think that makes him less effective in both attack and defence is his size, I think he could do with adding about 5-10 kgs with some weights, it would make him a more dangerous proposition I believe. I saw him in person the other day at our local shops and he is quite small for a forward.

Let me be clear, I'm not criticising Parker's form this year. He was tireless, worked hard, was inspirational at times, he deserved his player of the year award for his sheer consistency and contribution to the team.

BUT, I don't think he offers us much as a lock forward. He's more a workhorse second rower. I'd rather have someone who makes a few less tackles and actually has an impact in attack and defence, rather than him who tackles (often 2nd in) all game and makes some hit ups without often threatening the defensive line.

But there's only so many forwards you can pick, and his size counts against him being anywhere but the back of the scrum.

Yeh I agree re the second row thing which is what I was getting at with him putting on some size. I think that would make him more effective in the second row. That would allow Glenn to lock and we could push Sims into a prop role.

Yep, agree.

I just think our pack lacks some ball playing skills, particularly now with Taylor gone, and Alex Glenn is a perfect fit for that role at lock.

Agreed Coxy, the only concern I have is if u play Glenn at lock fulltime that takes away a real good utility option who can not only play in the backline, but the halves and the forwards from the bench and we would need to replace him there.

Agree GC, but that opens up the opportunity to have Ben Hunt on the bench almost full time. Yes, he can really only cover halves and hooker, but there's other shuffling options.

You couldn't have Hunt AND Glenn on the bench, you'd be too light on then.

Parker is good but not great. I don't think he's an origin player personally. He's one of those players that might be getting paid more than he is worth - or will be in the future because of his 'name'. Plenty of names out there who are worth more dosh IMO.
He had a great season but I don't rate him as much. Plus there are some young guns going around some other teams that look the goods. I hope we don't chuck an eels and Nathan Cayless him if you know what I mean. The eels got like 2-3 poor seasons which cost them a looooooot of dosh.
