Former Queensland Origin player Dave Taylor’s ‘pathetic’ Super League season looks over
FORMER Queensland and Australia forward Dave Taylor’s debut Super League season could be over after the Catalans Dragons star was charged with eye-gouging and a dangerous throw.
Having fled the NRL in a bid to rejuvenate his flagging rugby league career, Taylor was on the end of an almighty spray from Great Britain great Garry Schofield for his ‘pathetic’ play over the weekend.
And to top it off the former Gold Coast, Brisbane and South Sydney player is accused of making a dangerous throw on second rower Dean Hadley during the Dragons’ 44-0 Super League defeat at Hull.
It is a grade B offence which normally carries a ban of one-to-two matches but, more seriously, Taylor is accused of gouging St Helens fullback Jonny Lomax during the Catalans’ previous game against Saints at Langtree Park, which carries a ban of between four-and-eight matches.
Taylor, who is likely to be sidelined for a spell with a broken rib sustained in last Thursday’s match, is not eligible for an early guilty plea after he served a one-match ban earlier in the season for a dangerous throw and will face a hearing on Tuesday.
