FOOTBALL English Premier League 25/26 Discussion

No chance Spurs will beat the Mancs.

Spurs are absolutely awful at defending. Like, they are laughably bad. Ange is seemingly unwilling to adapt.

It will be tough.

Spurs have beaten us 3 times this season.

I like to think we have more big game experience and that will get us home, but I've been let down by this side too many times to get my hopes up.

Its the meme world championship decider.

You just cant get spurs'd. You cant. Theyre the sort of team that give out watches for making the final. Absolute bottomfeeder loser mentality straight through the club.

But at least they have a cheese room.

Says alot about the actual top to bottom quality of La Liga when the worst United side practically ever dog walks 4th place in La Liga home and away. The same Bilbao that is the best defensive team in Spain, had 7 put on them in 2 games with many other good chances missed.

Not buying in to the 15th smashed 4th crap because yes United is 15th, and deservedly so, but that is due to incredible underperformance, that roster shouldn't be 15th as Spurs shouldn't be 16th, but United is still nowhere near the top teams in England atm and beat Bilbao who were handsome favourites pretty convincingly.

Bilbao, who should easily qualify straight into UCL on league position for context as well.

Probably looking at a case of English teams dominating Europa and Conference for a while if they take it seriously because the other leagues teams in those competitions are nowhere near as good.

Let's say Villa finish 6th, they are a far better side than us right now, they would walk through Europa

Haha sorry but this is rubbish.

Bilbao got a pivotal red card early in the 1st leg (at the time the game was in the balance and they had missed a few great chances). The advantage United got from that red card and ensuing penalty was effectively what ended the tie.

United in the 2nd leg then scored 4 goals in the last 20min when it was obvious Bilbao weren't going to be able to go through. Their manager had already made 4 substitutions because he was taking a risk and was prepared to concede. The aggregate score and their goals conceded mean very little in that context.

Also throw in the fact they were missing their 3 top goal scorers.

I'm not taking any credit away from United (deserve to be in the final and good luck) but you're reaching to make any judgement of La Liga based on that semi-final.

The quality is Europa League is in the pits this season. It's no coincidence that it has occurred the same year as they've change the format and stopped UCL teams dropping into it.

The champions league is a joke anyway these days. Teams who arent champions qualify for a champions league. Look how low down the league you can finish and still qualify for it. Its as big a joke as people thinking the ballon d'or winner is actually the best player in the game.

As much as i hate to say it, i think its fair for the Europa league winner to be in a competition for champions.

My personal opinion is i would rather 4 cl spots and the 5th goes to the winner of the FA Cup.

As for europa winners getting a spot, personally im not so sure. I dont see how winning a lesser european comp gets you entry to the bigger one. Earn your way through league performances.

Only one ive agreed upon in the past is cl winners getting a chance to defend the trophy regardless of league performance.

In regards to the winner of Europa going into Champions League, was that mainly brought about to ensure that teams participating in it would actually care about winning it?

I think teams used to send their seconds out for Europa so they could focus on finishing higher in their league and qualifying for Champions League, so they upped the prize for winning it making the comp actually worth something.

I like the fact they are trying to foster interest in the comp but its always been bizarre to me that clubs would forgo winning a trophy to finish a few league places higher (can you hang your champions league participant medal when youve retired?).

Winning and prioritising winning is why you exist as a pro club.

If you dont win anything, you shouldnt be in the Champions league. The clue is in its name.

I guess this is my thought too. Seeing a lot of shitting on the Europa and Conference, and a lot of it is justified, but let's not pretend the UCL is stacked top to bottom.. there ends up being some dire teams in it each season.

Throw the league winners and previous seasons UCL winner (if they didnt win their league title) in the UCL, and have the others in a 'European Cup' type deal, could be a lot more interesting, and remove some of the shit filler games. It'll never happen though, they just added more games this season for $$$ reasons so they aren't going to remove games.

I preferred the old format. Champions went in the champions cup, Runners up and lower down teams went into the UEFA cup and the cup winners went into the cup winners cup. They were all 2 leg knockout games until the final and i just preferred that over how it is now thats set up so the so called big sides always get to the latter stages.

They probably need to rebrand what the champions league is because its not about pitting the champions against champions anymore.

Dunno, I think they've missed Partey a lot when he hasn't played and if he is on the way out it's a good signing.

Apparently they've bid for Gyokeres now too which is definitely a position signing they need.

I get playing Amad tonight, he hasn't had much game time, but I don't know why we're playing Yoro, Mount (especially with his injury history) and Ugarte.

Can't just not play them for 2 weeks so I don't mind it. Sure it's a risk, but they can get injured at training too and they still have to do that.

Maz is the one that puzzled me a little. Multiple outlets reported he was red lining last few weeks due to playing so much, so I assume he won't be playing much more than 45mins. Probably just wanting to see how he and Amad link down the right.
