FOOTBALL English Premier League 25/26 Discussion

He's backflipped on Arsenal once already... they tried to sign him before we did. I don't know why teams keep going back there, the bloke is twerking for Alonso and wants to stay in Spain.

It would be rather hilarious though.

On a side note, getting a bit over this Wirtz saga. Leverkusen are trying to fleece us and haven't been negotiating in good faith. Part of me wants us to walk away but I have no idea what other targets could be suitable for that role. Cherki was the #2 option and was great value.

Bit worried we're just going to spend all our cash getting Wirtz in and not address other spots in the squad we actually need.

ehh I reckon it's a bit of cinema, they're haggling over a couple of mill and whether it'll be in addons or whatever.

if you're willing to spend 113 then 118 isnt any different.

once wirtz is done i think kerkez will be done in quick succession, and then I guess we'll be on the lookout for a striker. i actually do think we'll spend a bit this year because not only did they basically promise salah and vvd they'll refresh the squad, but they're going to get a decent amount in outs.

kelleher, elliot, tsimikas, nunez, one of jota/diaz. that'll be a decent return.

it'll be interesting to see how the likes of Ngumoha and Nyoni feature as well next season. Wonder if Bajetic has a future or if he'll be on the table along with Morton

Ait Nouri gone to Citeh now for a ridiculously low fee. I reckon he's going to be the bargain of the season. Sad to see him go, love him as a player. Not many left backs around with the skill set and ceiling he's got.

He's handled this move with class and dignity unlike the other idiot we sold. Always professional and never been any trouble at Wolves.

Unless we are getting some favorable deal from them or a club in their group for a player we want, i think we have had our pants pulled down over this deal. Considering Kerkez looks like he is moving for 45 million, we should have been asking for at least that much.

Kerkez is 3 years younger, better and on a longer term contract.

Fee is reasonable for RAN. He will suit Pep nicely

Thought Trent's Spanish was pretty fluent considering he only recently decided to leave. 🤭

Listening to football financial expert Stefan Borson talking about the Cunha transfer, the deal has cost United way more than the fee because they had to pay Cunha's management 8 million pounds to sign him. Thats seems just ridiculous money to me. Mendes even when he isnt the players agent gets money into his Gestifute agency. Not that Wolves will be complaining as our owner has a 25% share in Gestifute.

Hate the Cunha deal regardless but definitely not believing something shared by Borson unless it's documented elsewhere with more reputable sources.

The bloke chats absolute nonsense on talksport regularly.

He's pretty clued up on the finances tbf, not so much his general football knowledge.

Its pretty common knowledge though that Jorge Mendes and Bertolucci work together with a lot of South American players, so having the biggest agent in the world and the biggest agent in South America working on the deal probably isnt going to come cheap. They took Chelsea to the cleaners with agents fees a few years ago.

Certainly not an ideal start. Maybe not an awful time to get Chelsea/City with disrupted pre seasons I guess. Any prem games are tough though really. Need to get transfer business sorted asap.

United need to be more ruthless in the transfer window with the start we have to the season. This whole "we'll take our time to save a few quid" isn't good enough. We need a striker and another midfielder in for pre-season so they aren't starting on the back foot. We can't afford to have signings missing the first couple of games again because United take too long to negotiate.

Seen this story way too many times in recent seasons though. Club truly believes they still have the United pull, but the pull United has these days is inflated wages. If you're in you're prime big trophy winning years, you aren't choosing United unless you are prioritising cash. Under SAF that wasn't the case, but it is now.

That won't change until you stop overpaying and overspending on wages and salary, or until the club returns to challenging for big trophies.

This striker chase is way too familiar.

Delap: Was interested in the money, but ultimately decided for a little less but a team in UCL and in a better spot.

Gyokeres: Club not keen to pay the fee, they umm and ahh on the deal, despite him being the mangers favoured option. Player now has decided they would likely prefer a club in a better position with UCL football, but they don't 'rule' out United just in case they need a club at the end of the window and they know the wages will be there.

As soon as that Gyokeres/Arsenal story happened, United is 'linked' to great young talent Ekitike. Makes 0 sense from a cash perspective because he is more expensive than Gyo and Delap where we know fee was a sticking point, but keeps the optics the club are still the real deal.

This only goes 3 ways from here and all are late decisions that **** your pre season. Gyo will be 'possible' for weeks, and he'll eventually sign elsewhere.

1. Club will then panic and pay someone like Osimhen whatever he wants. Overpaying on wages and fee to get it done.

2. Club will panic and overpay on salary for someone like Mateta, who won't have been 1st, 2nd or 3rd choice, because they left it too long.

3. Club will panic and pay whatever it takes for Ekitike, who is undoubtedly a great player, but is likely not the answer for United at this point in time.

We just have so much work to do and I have 0 faith in those making the decisions.

Mendes reportedly getting involved in the Gyokeres deal.

Reports are saying that Arsenal have agreed terms with Sesko and Sesko is one that Arteta wants. United need to push hard for Gyokeres.

Mendes runs Sporting. He's got more control there than he has at Wolves.

Emi Martinez interested in a move to United.

We've been chasing another GK and he's been the one at the top of the list according to reports. Villa are in a terrible PSR position so they're willing to sell but they want 40 for him.

He's not worth 40.

The whole Onana situation is up in the air at the moment. If Onana stays, we need another GK for when our African players are gone for the AFCON and we need a better quality keeper than Bayindir.
