FOOTBALL English Premier League 25/26 Discussion

Tielemans is a great signing if he can stay fit. He's an old 28yo considering he started at 16.

Villa won't be too disappointed. He's had a fair few soft tissue injuries and groin injuries in his time there and is getting older. Good deal for them, not so sure it's a good deal for United when they already have Mount who likes an injury.
Villa fans appear to be mostly disappointed, which usually means it's a good signing.

I think looking at his injury history it isn't as bad as I had initially thought, and definitely not anywhere close to Mounts.

I'm worried about Villa. Their fans should be disappointed as they are seemingly letting go of Martinez and Rogers too.

Throw in Onana's ACL.. its a significant amount of change to the spine of the team.

Tielemans is great but not a needlemover imo just a more refined version of Mainoo. I'd be a bit worried about the age given the mileage in his legs but still has another 2-3 seasons in him.

I would be more worried about Kone's injury history, especially the hamstring injuries.

Several types of soft tissue injuries. Three hamstring injuries in the past few years with them getting worse with each one, the last two being within a couple of months.

Probably explains his price.

Personally I would put everything into Scott, but we seem to be more focused on Kone or Gomez.

I think Tielemans works as a signing as long as he's more of an experienced squad depth kind of signing rather than intended to be one of the 2 starters in the double pivot.

Someone that you know can come into the team for a month or a game here and there, and pick up the slack from the starter without compromising form... a reliable next man up.

The issue would come if United are expecting Tielemans to be a starter and play big minutes across the full season... knowing we've got Champions League this year on top of cups, etc.

United still need that marquee midfielder that can be the regular starter across the season... Mainoo and Santos are too young to be relied on across a full season, plus cups, plus champions league.

Tielemans of 2-3 years ago could probably fill that role, but is too high a risk to be the main guy across all those competitions at this stage.

Still need at least another signing and it needs to be a proper starter.

Agreed on needle mover, but United midfield needed another experienced get, and if managed correctly across comps, it can work. It's not a bank breaker either, so I'm completely fine with it.

Assume Villa are in for some short term pain with all that change. Could be wage pressures too. On top of all the outs you've already mentioned, I still think Watkins could do a handy job somewhere. Spurs for example, splashing cash and need a better striker for their shiny new midfield to assist.
