Ennis to retire

Pity he will be remembered as a niggly little arsehole instead of a good honest toiler. You reap what you sow, I guess.

Pretty much spot on. I used to think Ennis was a complete wanker, but seeing him on NRL360 he actually comes across as a decent bloke and has some good views on the game. It's just a shame he acts like a tool on the field a lot of the time, and will be the way he's remembered as a player. I think he could still have been the same player had he cut all the BS out of him game, and would have been much more admired.

You're fighting a losing battle mate no matter how you talk up the Sharks and give your opinion which is your right you will be slandered, mocked, belittled, ridiculed and called every name under the sun.
Oh, that's their right bman ! I only hope to fire their brains a little by pointing out to them the utter stupidity of condemning the hard working, clean living and devoted because of the actions of a few others, years ago. If they're smart and some of them are, they would understand that one family member who commits a crime does not mean that all the family are criminals. So when they say ,**** the Sharks because Gallen plays for them that tiny unused part of their brains where reason, logic, fairness and compassion resides might receive some use.

I don't mind the ridicule because at least you know you've got them thinking and hopefully evolving as people even if at times it looks hopeless.

You don't understand. The Sharks win a premiership this year, Gallen wins the premiership this year. If there was a way the Sharks could win, without Gallen winning (or Fifita, or Ennis depending on who you ask), then that's a different story. But they can't, even if they get suspended and miss the GF they'll still get rings and be considered premiership winners. So, **** the Sharks. You may not like it. But **** them right in the ear.

I never had a problem with Ennis. He can be a pest on the field sometimes, but so was Hodges. The key was that they were very different off the field. Now Gallen is just a piece of shit in general.

Gun post and sums up my thoughts on Ennis in particular.

First Parker, now Ennis. That's 2 that have retired a year early imo but in a similar case to Parker, I'm happier to see him go out still playing good footy.

I got no qualms with Ennis at all. You judge a player and person by performance and how they carry themselves as much off the field as on. When you listen to any of his past or present teammates talk about him they are nothing but positive. He is a damn good footballer, leads well, and is articulate. Wish him success.

Add to that reason that the Sharks will forever be drug cheats, and Gallen is the captain of the drug cheaters, and Flanagan their coach. Doping is the biggest blight in sport, I consider it worse than salary cap cheating. Down, down, Cronulla.

It's funny seeing so many people saying it was ridiculous he wasn't playing Origin this year, year before etc. He simply wasn't picked because he was no good at the next level. Good/great club player but average at representative level.

Ennis is an annoying, nigling little douche, which means I like him unless he's playing against us. It's a shame, he seems to be a player who just likes playing footy.

Always had time for Ennis, despite the niggle. Seems like a pretty good bloke overall

I cannot stand the thoguht of the Sharks winning the big one, but that's got nothing to with Ennis

It's due to Gallen

Quite happy to see the Sharkies win the GF once he retires

That explains over half of the players NSW have selected in the last ten years. ****, you guys suck.

Aye, Ennis was a pest on the field but was amazingly good at it and usually good to watch if he wasn't playing against us. I wish him all the best and think the game won't be quite the same without him and it would be right for him to leave the game a winner.

Gallen on the other hand, well the sooner he packs his peptides and marches off to BadLosertown the better. Like Ennis he had a reputation but unlike Ennis he's just a genuine grub through and through, it's not an act used to put other players off their game but a glimpse of the cheap sook and wannabe bully that Gal is to his core.
The only possible benefit to seeing the Sharks make the GF would be seeing the epic tantrum the grub-in-chief would throw after losing to Cam Smith or JT yet again. A bad sport like that would probably stoop to leading his squad off during the winning captain's speech.

I'll be glad to see the back end of the grub quite frankly !

"He's one of the best players I've ever coached."
You'll struggle to find a better endorsement of Michael Ennis's career, especially when those words come from someone who has mentored the likes of rugby league greats Darren Lockyer, Wally Lewis and Allan Langer.
Wayne Bennett paid tribute to his 'good friend' this week after Ennis announced that he would be retiring from the NRL at the end of the 2016 season.
Ennis has had a decorated 14-year career that has seen him represent five NRL clubs and – most notably – New South Wales on eight occasions.
Bennett coached Ennis at the Broncos from 2006-2008 and the two immediately bonded and have kept in close contact ever since.
So close is their friendship that Ennis rang Bennett a week before he announced his retirement, asking the Broncos coach for advice on whether he should hang up the boots.
"I spoke to Michael about a week or so ago," Bennett said.
"We've always remained very good friends. I'm pleased for him because it's what he wanted.
"I'm very impressed with how Michael has developed throughout his career.
"He's an outstanding guy and he'll be great for the game when he retires. The game will not have seen the end of him.
"He was a bit undecided because he had so much going through his head. Sometimes they need a couple of other opinions so he gave me a call."
Ennis has always been one of the game's hardest competitors, with his in-your-face style of play dividing opinions in the NRL.
But Bennett endorsed Ennis's gamesmanship, saying that many of today's stars could learn a thing or two from the Sharks hooker.
"He's always had a great love of the game and he's given his best every week," he said.
"He's a great lesson for guys in the NRL that don't give their best every week.
"He sometimes is too paranoid about winning and puts too much pressure on himself to perform.
"He's been a wonderful player for the game and an outstanding person."
Ennis's focus will now turn to helping Cronulla-Sutherland turn their 15-game winning streak into their first premiership.
Much like the Sharks, the 32-year-old has never tasted title success – falling just short in the 2012 decider when he captained the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs to a 14-4 grand final loss to the Melbourne Storm.
But even if Ennis doesn't have the fairy-tale finish this year, he will have no regrets as he moves into life after football with his loving family.
The Coffs Harbour product said he is content with his decision, and he is thankful for the advice of those like Bennett that helped him make the right decision.

"I've had a feeling for six or eight weeks that this might be it," Ennis said.
"I'm comfortable with the decision and I'm looking forward to the next chapter.
"When I was making up my mind I spoke to people who I really trust that I know will always tell me the truth.
"Bennett was one of the first because I have a great relationship with Wayne."

Everyone's opinionated, just some agree with you, and some don't.

I'll miss Ennis, great player who always gave his all regardless of which team he was playing for.
