Even the players don't want Ricky.

Leading Brisbane Broncos players have sought assurances Ricky Stuart will not be at the club next season amid fresh speculation he is set to replace besieged coach Ivan Henjak.

The Broncos club board will meet on Wednesday, although it is almost certain there will be no clandestine moves to dump Henjak in favour of Stuart, who remains unemployed after quitting Cronulla in July.

But should Henjak fail to see out the remainder of his two-year deal, there is no guarantee Stuart will be his successor.

Club insiders revealed several Broncos players had voiced concerns about being coached by Stuart and would baulk at signing new deals if he ultimately replaced Henjak at Red Hill.

As happy as I am with this news, there are also media reports that the players don't want Ivan.

Media just say stuff. IMO journalists should have to actually name names or not be able to print these type of articles.

When did the Broncos all of a sudden become one of the shit clubs that don't keep their coach?

Seriously. If they fire Henjac before the end of his term, I'll be pissed.

they haven't yet, but listening to the majority of fans on these forums it seems most of them want Hejak gone, they just don't want Stuart as the coach.

FTR, i am against sacking Henjak before the end of 2011, IMO next year will be make or break for Henjak as coach of the Broncos

+1. Changing coach now won't do any good.

It pisses me off that henjak is rumoured to be gone every secomd week' the jury is out until 2011

I mean god forbid they could sit around over a beer ot two and talk out whatever problems they have instead of having the coach sacked.

If they can't do that they really do have a shit culture.

well said, if there is any truth to all this disloyalty stuff then get it out in the open, talk it over and build a bridge. you don't have to like your coach as long as he interacts with his players respectfully.

The one day, the senior players view Stuart favorably because they played under him.
The next day there's a player revolution against Stuart as coach.

Media credibility = 0

^ This. Stability has always been a big key to our success. In fact most truly successful organisations (sport, business etc) have stability in the key positions. Ivan hasn't done that bad of a job that it's time to get rid of him yet, I mean most people wanted Wayne gone after he wasn't able to deliver a premiership in the first 3 years - fortunately Ribot wasn't a reactionary CEO and stuck with him.

I don't want stability with a less than average coach. It really astonishes me when people say: "Ivan hasn't done that bad a job".
This is the Broncos, and I expect excellence from the coach. Excellence is definitely not what Henjak has delivered to the Broncos.
Between Management, coaching and players, IH is IMO the weak link!

Yes, don't argue with that. But unless an EXCEPTIONAL coach is available, I don't see the point in replacing Ivan with another less than exceptional coach.

The only ones I would consider are Craig Bellamy (As much of a douche as he is), Neil Henry (his Cowboys faux pas the last couple of seasons notwithstanding), Brian Smith (see Bellamy), Phil Gould (see Bellamy and Smith) or MAYBE Matt Elliott or Tim Sheens (Sheens is a myth perpetuated by the incredible Canberra teams he had in the 90s).

I'd love an exceptional coach, but until one does become available, I'll settle for better than we have now, and despite their flaws, I seriously consider any of the names vented so far, well... better!

If we didn't have a roster of the quality we will have next year, I wouldn't mind giving IH another shot. However I believe we have a real shot at the premiership in this case, and I'm afraid it might very well be a missed opportunity and a lost year! [icon_shru

And if you want that then you need to recognise that excellence(with a longterm goal which is something the Broncos have always set out for) is something that is neither built overnight and that stability is a huge factor in a clubs longterm success, Wayne Bennett himself said in his early days at the Broncos he thought it would take them at least 5 years to achieve a premiership. As flutterby points out there were many vocal critics including fans who wanted Bennett gone not just because of the Lewis issue but because of the lack of the expected success and considering the talent and experience he had on board at time compared to that of what Henjak has had to work with in his two seasons I know who I would realistically expect more from and its not Henjak in that timeframe. Regardless the Broncos backed Bennett, didn't listen to the often emotionally driven biased perspectives of those outside the club and it proved the correct decision.

This is not to say I see Henjak as necessarily the longterm answer at present, but sacking him now instead of letting him prove his potential at least next season with what I think most people would argue is a side that has been a work in progress the last two seasons(especially this season given the introduction of a lot of young talent) which is something Henjak has been working on and then replacing him with someone like Stuart and Anderson who to be honest raise a lot of issues themselves at previous clubs they have been coaches at goes against the foundation and strength of what the club has been built on. I have no problems with having a serious review of his future at the end of next season but sacking him now smells of misguided panic.

I couldn't agree more. especially the comparisons between Bennett's early days at the club and Henjaks tenure so far. i think Henjak has done a decent job so far abd i think it would be stupid to sack him before at least the end of next season. When Bennett started at the club he had a far supeerior side to what was given to Henjak and he didn't have much success. but the Broncos had faith in him.

I really need to see Henajk have our defence up and firing in 2011 and some good structurres in place so we can handle injuries alot better. Top 4 finish is a must in 2011 IMO.

At the time, the Broncos was a new franchise, yet to build a name and reputation. There is no comparison possible between Bennett's start at the foundation of the club and Henjak's tenure at what is currently the pinnacle of Rugby League at club level!

I have no faith in IH and am worried this will be a wasted year, it's as simple as that really.
Having said that, I hope I will have my face full of egg around this time next year!
