Not a bad group for us.

I don't know why they needed to change. It's not like the previous format of the World Cup wasn't working...

Anyway our TBD opponent will either be Turkey, Romania, Slovakia or Kosovo.

The games we have are winnable, but it's still a tough group and I get the feeling we won't advance to the knockout stage.

always keen for WC. just hoping something awful doesn't happen considering the political situation.

12 years since I was in Brazil, god damn.

also italy, man, they got problems. 3 in a row they've missed. they need to do what Germany did 25 years ago and just completely overhaul their juniors/academy systems. too much reliance on foreigners propping up their domestic league.

they've got the talent, they just don't nurture it.

As much as I hate to admit it, there was contact. It was very slight and Grosso milked the hell out of it, but it was a penalty.

I don't blame Neill for it. The rest of the team let him down. We weren't pressing, we were standing back and letting the Italians set up their play. Grosso beating Bresciano put Neill in a bad spot with Italy having a great opportunity to score a goal there.

Cahill's free header in front of goal was our chance. He nailed those so many times throughout his career but this time he didn't. That was our moment. That should have been 1-0.

I do think if it went to extra time, we probably would have ended up winning, but unfortunately it didn't.

What is going on with the Italy national team, though?

Since becoming champions, they failed to make it past the group stage in 2010 & 2014, and since then they have failed to qualify for the next three world cups.

They had only failed to qualify for the World Cup once since their debut in 1934 and now they have missed the last three.

Truly devastating. Bastoni should have just let Bosnia have a shooting opportunity at that point. A red card that early is just not worth it, especially when you're the team expected to win.

Well this came around quick. I dont follow the international stuff (besides the world cup), so not sure about form atm. Are we a chance of making it out of our group stage?

It isn't outside the realms of possibilities but it will take a lot going Aus's way. Australia doesn't have any star players these days. Very few are playing in the big big leagues around the world but they can more than hold their own. Australia does have some decent strikers and that always helps.
