Fight for Fullback

Who should be the Broncos fullback in 2013?

The loss of Gagai is starting to take a toll. He could have been our fullback or released Hodges to fullback. Copley injury also hurts.

I'd like to see Norman there. We are desperately short of attacking skill and while Hoffman is safe he provides nothing in attack. He just can't time his run on the second man play, he doesn't seem to know when to pass and when he steps he loses speed and gets picked off easily.

His lack of contribution in attack reflects badly on our coaching staff as well. Fair enough if they want to stick with him but they have to come up with ways/plays which he can do that get him in the game. Maybe Prince will help particularly with the inside ball that Wallace telegraphs.

He is NRL standard and I liked what I saw from him at centre in the Qcup and the brief time at NRL so I would put him there where he can hit holes and use his strength and be used a s a decoy for Norman.

I would have Norman at 1, Hoffman and Hodges in the centres Prince and Wallace in the halves or Hodges, Reed and Hoffman at wing.

Er not sure how you got that but no. Hoffman in the centres or Reed in the centres with Hoffman on the wing.

The reservations people had about Hoffman as a FB early in his career still exist today, he is too one dimensional. Those reservations disappeared when Lockyer was in the side, however, without Lockyer or another dominant half in the side we can not afford to carry a FB who lacks basic playmaking ability and who doesn't even follow the play the majority of the time. FB these days is like having an extra half and when you have weak halves to begin with the vulnerabilities presented by a one dimensional FB are amplified.

My vote goes to Bond, Hodges would do great but why weaken one position to strengthen another?

1. Bond
2. Maranta/Kahu
3. Reed/Kahu
4. Hodges
5. Kemp
6. Norman/Prince
7. Prince/Hunt

Possibly run with Reed in the #14 instead of a backup Hooker. If Maranta/Kahu struggle with defence you can slip Reed in there or play him in the front.

He has, However he is best for us on the wing imo. He has wonderful pace and knows how to toy with the sideline really well.

If it's the only way to keep Norman away from the halves (and he shouldn't be in the same post code as the five-eighth in any team...), play him at fullback.

Norman did well in his limited time at fullback if i remember correctly.

I wouldn't have a problem with him going back there.

He'd give us a playingmaking option chiming into the backline too, which is what a fullback has to do these days.

My vote's with Hodges. He probably only has two or three years left before retirement and it's time to start grooming a replacement now that gaga is gone. Having Hodges at the back actually makes room for a lot of options in the centres. I believe both Norman and Hoffman's natural position is centre. Both have NRL experience, albeit in different positions, in addition to Hoffman tearing it up in centre in qcup. Kahu is another option. I've never seen him play but good things have been said about him for years. That's three options minus Copley (who I believe has limited potential and won't ever get much better than Reed is) I think it can work. And that's without mentioning the multitudes of second rowers that could cover it. Hodges will know after one game if his body can handle it. Why not just trial it in round one.

You would put an unknown there, when we have one prettygood one, and one that is pretty useless but has experience. And no Jack Reed? Lolwat?

We have one of the most destructive centres in the game. You don't just move that away because he's shown he can play ok at fullback, and only has a little bit of time left at the club.

I don't see how Bond is a genuine option. I can just seem him getting mauled at NRL level. He has only had 1 stellar season at Q cup level I believe. We need a dominant fullback. Our only option is to open the cheque book unless Kahu can turn into something special. Fullback is the position that has to be good. We would be a much better side with a better fullback even with our shit halves.

How? If the shit halves don't feed the ball and create space, the FB can't do a thing.

Slater would have looked woeful last year. The only difference is that Slater would have given his all, something Hoffman didn't. By his own admission.
