NEWS Filthy rich Broncos

Six Broncos made the Courier Mail's Top 100 Richest.

Note salaries have been adjusted down due to the 6% Covid discount:

Anthony Milford: $940,000
Matthew Lodge: $750,000
Tevita Pangai Jnr: $682,000
Payne Haas: $517,000
Corey Oates: $517,000
Brodie Croft $423,000 (number 100)

Ben Ikin shares his plans to rebuild this "disgusting" roster:

“We have to build capability and balance in our roster. We need strike, endurance, youth, leadership, game awareness, enforcers ... there’s a whole lot of capabilities that sit on a roster that go beyond positional depth."

“You want people who can model premiership habits and they come in many forms, but you need a critical mass of players who can be professional at all times. If there is a critical mass of guys who are coachable and living the standards everywhere, then that carries the team. It’s constitution, it’s resilience, it’s mental toughness, it’s not just 80 minutes it’s what you do through the work week."

“But what certainly needs to be managed around that is the salary cap, which can be restrictive at times. What sits in behind all that is what you can pay players on your roster. So getting the value of your players right and seeing what exists in the marketplace is also an important facet. The spine is hugely important. They are the brains of a footy side. I won’t go into details about the specifics of each position, but you know when you have a best-in-code dummy half or halfback or five eighth. It’s vitally important we get our spine right.”

What’s all this raid on Haas that’s been in the papers lately?

media trading on the Broncos ladder position for clicks.

they're claiming that Ikin now needs to convince Haas to commit to at least see out his 6 year contract ending at the end of 2024. They claim that several Sydney clubs have him on a hit list to lure him back south of the border ...

I'm sure that when he comes onto the market, he'll have 16 clubs interested in his signature ... 17 if a second Brisbane team enters the comp

Hence our job is to ensure they never get a chance to do that...

Its criminal that Haas isn't paid more than those others.

It is, but it also isn't. For me if you sign a longer contract like 5-10 years, then you should expect to take a little less money.

Yea im just talking in terms of effort.

Hass is a good example of why not to sign a 6 year contract as an 18 year old rookie with 30 mins of first grade experience.

if he had signed a 2 or 3 year contract ... then he's the one who gets the $1.2 million offer instead of Fifita

I once tried not "clicking" on one of these "media" links and the next thing I found myself gazing longingly at naked photos of Brazilian lady boys with enormous dicks. Suggest you keep clicking on those Broncos stories if you don't want this fate befalling you.

If you ask me that's how those contracts should be run.

It pretty much sets him up for life at 18, while letting the club get value from their junior investment.

How long did you spend on those websites? 😂

Imagine paying Haas the same amount as Oates.
No need mate 👍

Our trusty admin has taken all the guess work out of it, bringing to a glaring reality how overpaid Oates and underpaid Haas are 🤣

Thing is though, for all the stupid, inept and self damaging decisions this club seems intent on repeating over and over again to itself (with hopefully all that now coming to a halt), it is clear that Haas's contract was one of the best decisions this club has made in half a decade.

We should be hailing it as the precedent for properly constructed player remuneration and salary cap management.

If he was at the Storm or Roosters earning what he does he, bet your bottom dollar those clubs would be lauded for it...

So, kudos to you Broncos, job very well done...

Now, keep doing this with the next gen coming through here...
They are... Why they didn't pay Fifita and Walsh a million each to stay.

Fifita is starting to look like that was a good call. Walsh should have stayed but on what price for no first grade games
