PLAYER Gehamat Shibasaki

Yeah credit to Shiba. Sets a really powerful message to a lot of people in different walks of life if you keep working hard, good things will happen. He had one last crack and my god has he come good. Beyond Payne I think he has been our best of the rest this season. Been excellent. Credit to him.
Sets a message to the recruitment retention team too, in that they don't have to be always looking for the teenager who is the "next big thing".

Sometimes a seasoned cup player or journeyman willing to buy in and play their role for the team can be just as important for the squad.

The Broncos have been getting better at this, Smoothy, Hoeter, Jensen and Rogers.

Totally agree. Its something i've always gone on about. I think because in the past we have had so many superstars some of our fans and probably some people at the club feel we need a side packed with them. We dont. Blending game changing superstars with players who just do their jobs and offer good value for money is what we need going forward.

Nothing but respect and admiration for Shiba. Its easily the feel good story of the season.

I'm a blue, but I hope he has a blinder next Wednesday. Imagine the confidence for the run home if he can take it to Critter for 80 minutes - would walk back into Red Hill with balls the size of King Kong!

Nothing but love brother 💙
Enjoy every moment

Question is does he re-sign or go somewhere else. He’d have to demand upwards of 400k now. Thanks Billy for that one

He was going to be playing for Wynnum for 20k a year, even if he's on minimum wage at Brisbane and earning 120k plus 30k for an Origin he's well in front of where he thought he would be in June.

Perhaps but the point is he potentially could be miles ahead of where he thought he was gonna be.

I’m more so thinking of the broncos here, we don’t want to lose him after giving him that opportunity but now he’s a Queensland rep player. He’ll want more money it’s only natural. And us signing Anderson and Karapani doesn’t leave us with much at all.

Won't have to worry about that until next year where we'll be able to give him a bigger offer for 2027 and beyond.

We get Cobbo’s money back and Baker is on something like 300k. Karapani wouldn’t be on much and I don’t think Anderson would be either. We still have a lot of players unsigned next year and for those that might still re-sign, none are a priority so probably will be downgraded. Reynolds also is taking a huge pay cut reportedly. We didn’t offer Cobbo much because we didn’t want him clearly, we’ve got money.

Like I said he's on more than he was going to be, development deals are minimum 80k and he's not on that- he's closer to bottom of the top 30 on 120k.

He's been able to not work and be fulltime football again which he wasn't able to do before.

Development players also get a nice bonus for each NRL game they play plus his 30k from Origin.
