CRICKET General Cricket Discussion

NZ will be no pushovers against Aus this summer. Even without Williamson they have serious talent in Latham, Conway, Ravindra looks a generational talent and Mitchell in the batting. Although he didn’t play, Phillips is a gun all rounder and then some world class pacemen in O’Rourke, Henry and the other tall bowling all rounder who averages under 20 with the ball and I can’t remember his name suddenly. Foulkes swings it nicely and Smifh is their Siddle. Strong side.

But on the flip side, I get Stokes wanted to go down in a blaze of glory as Bazball probably goes with him but that 4th day’s start to the chase was ridiculous. It’s like they wanted to chase it down in 20 overs and just kept throwing wickets away.

Yeah just ridiculous. 6/100 going at like 7 rpo chasing 370. Almost looked like they put it in the too hard basket and surrendered.

Go and watch Brooks 9 ball innings. Pure recklessness. They got away with it in one innings during the Ashes. But FMD no brains batting

It will end as an unmitigated disaster for English cricket.
Dunno about that .
Won a lot more than they lost .
Probably got more people watching cricket .
Disappointed probably. Unmitigated disaster? Exaggeration.

They won f all that was meaningful. the highlights they keep reminiscing about are a chase against the kiwis and a series against win Pakistan, four years ago. Wowee.

They did win a lot more than they lost early on but not once the sugar hit wore off.

They didn't win an Ashes or against India at home or away, lost to NZ at home, out of the running of the WTC with so many losses and points deducted for continually poor over rates. Have turned a generation of cricketers into sloggers. Fairly regular behaviour issues from star players in Stokes (captain), Brooks (captain and vice captain) and Duckett. Have lost 7 of their last 9 tests.

It started well, but has ended in mostly losses, a truly embarrassing Ashes in Australia and a test series defeat at home to NZ by barely offering a whimper in the deciding test. They have a future test captain who is a glorified slogger who despite his undoubted talent, regularly throws his wicket away.

But maybe it did get more people watching cricket, I guess that is all probably subjective.

However, if it isn't an unmitigated disaster, it is pretty close.

And honestly, I liked the approach, it was fresh and sound in theory, I guess it is just unsustainable. Inevitably, players will just end up batting stupid and not to the conditions and this is the result.

I think the interesting question will be where do England go next.

Can they find another coach who will embrace the Bazball style that has now been engrained in their batters?

Do they even want to keep going down the Bazball path?

They weren't very good at traditional test batting before Bazball so if they go away from it what is the plan?
