Golden Point - different points

I see nothing wrong with a draw in the regular season.

I don't agree with getting the one point after the loss - as devastating/harsh losing golden point is... that is the beauty of it. If we're going to have it I'd rather all or nothing - however the field goal shoot out is nothing short of luck at times. Penalty is crucial as well. I'd rather golden try.

Anyway my point is - what is wrong with a draw in the regular season? ><

I'm with you Ari - if we have to have it, leave it the way it is.

IMO the only thing which needs to be changed in golden points is FGs. It should go for 10 minutes, if a team gets a field goal then it keeps going for the 10 minutes and who ever is ahead at the end wins, however a try wins it straight up.

Also I don't believe this game could drag on forever business, teams are flat out defending in the 80th minute to do it past 90(well perhaps a game a year at most) would be very rare.

i wouldn't mind golden try if it also went to drop offs. I.e. first 5 minute period it drops to 11-a-side, then second period drops to 9-a-side.

Golden point has to go in regular season, and normal extra time has to be brought back in for finals.

It's still ludicrous that a 90min win is worth the same as an 80min win.

I don't know, I really enjoy golden point, it makes a game very exciting even though it's not fair for the losing team.

That is the key - a rugby league game is played over 80 mins. Of course in finals footy there has to be a winner so appropriate extra time rules should apply. However it is vastly unfair a team coming away with ZERO points when there is a draw in 80 minutes. It is very unfair to the losing team.

Obviously it is exciting and what not but its a slap in the face that you don't receive the well earned one point you deserve IMO. (regular season)

And frankly it's manufactured excitement. Referees don't referee golden point the same way they rule the rest of the 80 minutes. Players are hell bent on setting for a field goal...honestly some of the 90 minute draws with 10 minutes of woeful attempts at field goal have been embarrassing to watch.

There have been some GOOD golden point games - notably last year Broncos vs Titans, and Locky's double upright field goal (which should be worth 4 points, right Jeza?), but there's a lot of poor ones.

At least with regular extra time in finals teams can play their normal game for another 10 minutes. If still deadlocked, golden point.

exactly...

stripping a team of a point in the regular season is so harsh. HOWEVER... to incorporate a system like the one you suggested isn't the way to go IMO. Either have it or don't. (Knowing the NRL they won't get rid of it for some time)
