Can someone tell me how he gets away with an obvious eye gouge on the weekend? Disgusting behaviour for any player, not to mention a dirty player who's now got the praise of a lot of people because he's learnt his lesson...

Cheers Nashy, but they don't even mention it in the video! I hate it when they use a picture just to lure people.

It certainly looks bad in the picture, and seems to have been conveniently buried. But I remember reading that the Titans player didn't make a complaint, so I guess that makes it a bit more complicated.

If it's on video or images then he should be answering for himself. How you get those two fingers in an awkward position, pulling at someones eye socket is beyond me. Accidents happen, but I have never accidentally grabbed hold of someones eyes socket with two fingers both in the exact same position.

I mostly agree, but it's pretty difficult to charge a guy with eye gouging when the supposed victim says:

That's the first I know about it; I didn't get gouged," Delaney said. "My eyes aren't sore. Nothing happened out there. My eyes are fine.

Exactly. It reminds me so much of the Gorden Tallis forearm on Steve Simpson in 2001 I think it was. The front page of the Courier Mail had this really nasty looking shot of Tallis looking into Simpson's eyes, forearm braced, fist clenched, looking like he's about to smear Simpson's nose across his face.

The video footage showed the whole thing happen in a split second, and it was more Tallis falling and preparing to brace himself, in the process hitting Simpson's cheek and causing a cut.

Simpson came out saying how he didn't sleep after the game, his face was too painful and yadda yadda.

Bam, Tallis got charged and got 2 weeks.

There was sweet FA in it.

In this case it's similar, Bird is just putting his hand up to push Delaney off him, as all tackled players do, and his fingers have got into his eye region. It ain't a gouge!

No complaint. End of story.

In the act of pushing someone off you, which is clearly what's happening on that photo, a lot could happen in a split second.

If what we see there was sustained, there is no way that Delaney would've felt nothing.

An absolute non-event IMO. A lucky photo, which only actually generated a story because it was Greg Bird. As much as I hate the bloke, absolutely nothing in it.

You are looking at 1 still shot.

To charge and penalise a player based on one photo would be absolutely ridiculous.

Even more so when the person who was "gouged" comes out and says "this is the first i have heard about it".
