what's the deal with Jayden playing centre? I would've thought he'd be much more involved playing fullback, five-eighth, hooker..

I think they're experimenting to help combat the Broncos poor depth out-wide.

He played well against the Rabbits but needs to work on a couple of things.

236m off 16 carries to go with a try, a line-break and a try-assist.

Was a good afternoon for him as well although I thought he could have linked with his outside men more.

If you thought it was difficult to keep track of teams in the NRL, spare a thought for those following the Holden Cup. So far it appears that we've got a couple of early stand-outs in the North Queensland Cowboys, Brisbane Broncos, Manly Sea Eagles and to an extent the Gold Coast Titans who finish the week with 2-0 records but there's so many variables that will come into play that it could easily change on a dime.

Of what I know, Manly have another exciting prospect coming through in the form of Tom Trbojevic. We're only 2 rounds into the competition and already he has scored 7 tries. Not only that but Parramatta and Melbourne are hardly slouches. The problem for the Manly NYC side is that a player of that ability is always in line for a call-up and it would surprise me to see him spend too much time in the NYC.

Then you've got the Gold Coast Titans who caused the upset of Round 1 downing a quality Wests Tigers outfit comprehensively 34 points to 16 and on the road they beat a Penrith Panthers outfit that won the week before 30 points to 12. Was it a case of Bathurst acting as a neutral ground or are the Bulldogs really that bad at the moment that they're making teams look a lot better than they are?

For mine the highlight so far has been the North Queensland Cowboys. They've introduced a bunch of Townsville Stinger players who not only won the Mal Meninga Cup but also went onto flog the SG Ball winners, the Sydney Roosters 36 to 16. Unfortunately fans won't be able to get to watch them play until Round 11 when they take on the Raiders at Canberra. For any Broncos fans who want to watch one of the best teams in the competition and perhaps one of the best games of NYC all year, make your way to Suncorp ASAP and watch the next generation of Rugby League talent go at it.

For all the other teams, I'm throwing the form guide out until a later date but right now I believe the three clear stand-outs are the Broncos, Sea Eagles and Cowboys with Tom Trbojevic & Ash Taylor duking it out for early honors for player of the competition.

Big League Round 3 Notes

Clayton Williams (South Sydney Rabbitohs) was one of the Rabbitohs' best, gaining 139 metres from 14 carries and topping the tackle count with 40.

Christian Crichton (Penrith Panthers) was the star of the day for the mountain men, constantly threatening the Roosters out wide and creating a try for speedy winger Josh Jay during the first half.

Will Pearall (Manly Sea Eagles) notched up two try assists and four line-break assists.

Ma'afoeata Hingano (Warriors) created three tries and tore Parramatta apart with his incisive running, plus he kicked five goals.

Toafofoa Sipley (Warriors) charged for 154 metres from 16 carries and busting the line twice while also demolishing the Eels forwards with his powerful tackling.

Jai Arrow (Brisbane Broncos) was the Broncos best, making 33 tackles and a line-break to go with 25 carries for 223 metres.

Jayden Berrell (Brisbane Broncos) tore the Cowboys apart in the middle of the ruck, constantly threatening from dummy-half, as well as topping the tackling count.

Lachlan Croker (Canberra Raiders) scored 24 points through two tries and eight goals to go with two try assists, two line-breaks, two line-break assists and 209 metres from 18 runs.

Brandon Smith (North Queensland Cowboys) was the best player on the field, terrorising the Broncos forwards with his speed from dummy-half and ability to marshal his forward pack.

Villiame Kikau (North Queensland Cowboys) was also dangerous, gaining 146 metres from 14 carries.

Latrell Robinson (Melbourne Storm) the younger brother of Parramatta winger Reece, was a standout for the Storm and threatened the Sharks defenders with his speed and footwork. The more ball Robinson received, the more dangerous the Storm looked and he'll be a key player in this Monday night's blockbuster against North Queensland.
