NEWS House of Payne: When Broncos hit the magic number they can’t be beaten

The big one will be Walsh... will he want $1m as well or will he go $800k or so to keep the group together?

Walsh is our key attacking threat this year and will only become more important moving forward.

Also need the salary cap to just keep going up

I think Walsh a bit like Carrigan will take a bit less. I think Ezra may as well. Herbie and Flegler obviously took the money ( i dont blame them either, make it while you can ). Payne i still feel with his management wont take a bit less for the team, i think they will encourage him to take as much as he can get.

Yeah, Payne has his whole family pressuring him for money, and given the car his mum was driving when she did the you know what that isn't cheap.

We still got him for another year though, I think the absolute max we can pay him realistically given the new cap is 1.2 and that is hoping other key players sign for unders.

Walsh has had a taste of life outside the Broncos and he wanted to come back here so that says alot.
He's a very marketable player so he'd be able to pick up some nice 3rd parties which hopefully means he'll take a lower amount to keep the team together.

He has been a total piece of shit. Thankfully for his sake, he seems to have turned a corner now.
He definitely was I can't excuse it, but some slack has to be given because of his upbringing, it's not the same thing as someone who has had a good upbringing ending up a full respectable person compared to someone who has had most of their life being surrounded around dickheads doing similar eventually over time, young people are heavily effected by their surroundings it's a massive uphill battle to end up in the same situation, it can't be understated.

I would say him being soo good at the game from an early age which allowed him being around the Broncos professional organisation is what has helped him as a person to get to this stage, not to look at everything about his life but it surely would have had some rub off on him.

Interesting to find out he weighs 117 kg and stands at 194 kg tall.

These things take time. There's no rush for either side.
I gave this some thought.

Patty signed in good order.
As have a fistful of others.

Payne is the only one that has asked for a release, and is also taking the longest to re-sign.
The longer it go's without him signing, the less likely it happens.
Its been two weeks since all the news reported Haas was on the verge of signing the biggest contract in Bronco's history and still not a peep about it.

Something stinks, and i will happily concede i was wrong if he ends up signing with us, but i am heavily leaning towards him not signing now.

All the news went from : "Haas signing imminent" to "code switch imminent".

Instead of "shooshing" me Joe, how about answering the question?

Its been 2 weeks since we were told Haas was on the verge of signing a new deal, yet all we have heard since then is that RU are going to poach him.

I legit hope he re-signs with us, and just feel like the longer this plays out, the more it becomes a situation akin to Fifita.

You remember that one right?

This rugby thing seems like the last squeeze before he signs long term.
**** i hope so man.

This is why i love Patty.
No talk of going to lunch with the Roosters bigwigs, no talk of code switching, no requests for release, no long drawn out contract dramas, no dickhead managers and no deadbeat family members stirring up shit.
Just got it done and signed the dotted line.

He did get his manager to poke for some more money the second he got rep nods but he was underpaid anyway. Cue Wolfie love heart.

Paynes father now coming out saying he is serious about playing Union. Says Rugby league is very small compared to Union. Some quotes from him regarding Payne as i dont know how to link a paywalled article.

“It’s no lie about rugby. They are definitely keen,” Gregor Haas said.

“There’s a few clubs overseas who are keen. The world is a big place.

“Rugby is something Payne would seriously look at.

“Payne loves rugby league and the Broncos, but he has played rugby as a kid.

“People bag rugby in Australia but they don’t look at the bigger picture.

“The NRL is very small compared to rugby, which is a world game.”

“I know winning a premiership at the Broncos would be huge for Payne,” Haas Senior said.

“He is playing good footy at the moment and I know he wants to win an NRL premiership.

“I think if Payne went to rugby now before he won a comp, he would probably feel he has some unfinished business.

“Payne started in rugby when he was about 10. He knows the game well.

“He played rep rugby in Newcastle and when he came to the Gold Coast he played in the Junior Gold program at 15.

“Payne loves the Broncos and he has some good mates there, but if you are asking is he serious about rugby, yes, he is for sure.”

Where is Haas' family based? Would the entire family move to mooch off him or do they take electronic transfers?
