OS would be operating system, you've maybe had an update that has turned off or defaulted some of your settings.

If you're on android its worth checking the pop out player and picture in picture settings.

Wouldn't have a clue about Apple but I assume it's called similar.

Edit: Renegade replied while I was, check that stuff too

Talking about the Kayo mobile app in general here. Anybody having this issue? Maybe a tech guru knows what the problem would be.

Used to be able to stream the footy etc on my mobile and at the same time do something else on another app eg banking. So it would automatically lower the footy into a smaller box and you could still watch while you did something else. Now it just gets out of the sport automatically.

This started happening a few months ago as soon as I updated the app. Never did it before that. its a pain in the ass.

I got onto hubbl support and they said the generic shit they do. Clear the cache, reinstall the app and also said to check that the "picture in picture box" was ticked which he believed is what I am talking about. It was already ticked. So I still have no idea what the **** is going on. It definitely only started ****ing up when I updated the app. The app is ****ing abysmal by the way. Layout etc. Plus the price is going up. One of the worst apps I have. Miserable experience
Must be a setting on your phone. Just tried it (android) and it works for me.

Will have to sign back up to Kayo again for the WCC. With the price increases again for 2026, will probably go the Broncos digital membership as I think it'll work out cheaper even for 12 mths than paying Kayo direct..

there'll be an app settings menu within your settings menu on your phone itself. you can control some of the behaviours of your apps within there, notifications, run in background, disable if idle for x period of time etc. could be a setting in there.

edit: just checked on Android, no luck but you could try this

  • Android Battery Settings: For Android, you can try allowing background activity to prevent the OS from killing the app. Go to Settings > Apps > Kayo > App Battery Usage and select "Allow background usage" or set it to "Unrestricted".
If you're on IOS/Apple then **** you.
Cheers mate I am on android. Tried what you said. Not making a difference. Its a pain in the ass but I guess will just have to deal with it.

What phone do you have. Jesus that is frustrating. I can't work it out. So it lowers for you?

mate there must be some other background process stopping it.
have you got some sort of antivirus or adblocker on your phone?

Yeah I'm on android with a Samsung and it works for me on Kayo/Twitch/Youtube.

Puts the video in a small box and you can use other apps etc on the phone no issue.

Try going to app settings, kayo, picture in picture and make sure its allowed.

Or can check here and make sure you have PiP allowed.

Settings > Apps > Special app access > Picture-in-picture

If its already ticked/allowed for PiP, the only other thing I can think of is a battery setting not allowing it to work.

Disable Battery Optimization: Go to Settings > Battery > Battery Optimization. Ensure the app is not set to "Optimize" or "Restricted," as this can stop background processes like PiP.

Other than that, just basic stuff like toggle PiP on and off and then reinstall the app just to see if that helps.

Yeah I changed it off optimize before and it didnt do anything. Would it matter if the device is old? Like I have had it for years and years. My mrs has a reasonably new samsung galaxy (last 3years I think) so maybe I should try the app on her device to see. I just read this when I googled why it might not work on kayo.

Picture-in-Picture (PiP) or "pop-out" video on Kayo is not working, or not available, largely due to device-specific limitations and the fact that Kayo currently supports this feature primarily on desktop web browsers rather than all mobile apps.
Here are the main reasons why PiP is likely not working for you:

1. Device Compatibility Limitations
  • Mobile Apps (iOS/Android): Kayo has been updating its mobile apps, and the pop-out player feature is currently designed for web browsers, meaning it often won't appear on mobile devices.
  • Smart TVs/Streaming Sticks: Many TV apps (Samsung, Hisense, LG, Android TV) do not support PiP or "pop-out" functionality.
  • Unsupported Browser: If using a desktop, PiP is available on Chrome, Safari, and Edge, but not officially supported or limited on Firefox.

That's interesting, could always check if it works on youtube/twitch or something on your phone, if it does then it's likely just a kayo thing thats not allowing it to work on your phone.

S25 ultra. Yea puts it in a small box in the corner.

You're pressing the middle button to push it into the small box right? Not the back button?

That feature only works for certains apps for me I.e. Netflix, Kayo, etc. Doesn't work for youtube for some reason.
