Knee injury cuts short Fressard's Broncos dream

July 7, 2018

Jayme Fressard has experienced the highs and lows of a professional rugby league player in the space of a fortnight, rupturing her ACL and MCL in a sad ending to her season after signing with the Brisbane Broncos late last month.

Jayme Fressard has experienced the highs and lows of a professional rugby league player in the space of a fortnight, rupturing her ACL and MCL in a sad ending to her season after signing with the Brisbane Broncos late last month.

The 21-year-old will require a reconstruction on her left knee and joins the likes of Caitlin Moran, Tahlulah Tillett, Jasmin Allende (all knee) and Corban McGregor (shoulder) on the sidelines with season-ending injuries before September's inaugural NRL Holden Women's Premiership.

Fressard only recently expressed her excitement to NRL.com about the stability a top 40 contract has given her and the opportunity to link with the Broncos for the inaugural competition.

She posted to Instagram on Saturday devastated by her latest setback.

Brisbane have until July 31 to secure a replacement and finalise their 22-player squad.

Queensland representatives Amelia Kuk and Annette Brander were already linked to the Broncos prior to Fressard's injury, while Maroons back-rower Tazmin Gray is expected to replace McGregor at the Roosters.

Several top 40 squad members remain available for sides including NSW prop Rebecca Young and former Maroons back-rower Kate Haren.

The Warriors are set to reveal their entire 22-player squad at once in the coming weeks.

Despite at least eight players from the Kiwi Ferns' World Cup side last season joining Australian-based clubs, it's understood the Warriors will remain with predominantly local players in their squad.
