HE has coached and played with some of rugby league's greatest ever players including Andrew Johns and Bobby Fulton.

But former Great Britain and Newcastle coach Malcolm Reilly reserves special praise for current English five-eighth Leon Pryce: "On the front foot, he is as dangerous a player as I've ever seen," Reilly told The Daily Telegraph last night.

"He'd be a star every weekend if he played in the NRL."

Pryce was yesterday named in a powerful Pommy side to play Australia this Sunday night in Melbourne.

Former Sydney Roosters hardman Adrian Morley will come off the bench while new Wests Tigers forward Gareth Ellis will start in the second-row.

But Reilly, who played in Manly's first grand final win in 1972 and coached the Knights to their memorable 1997 premiership, spoke glowingly about Pryce.

"Australians haven't seen the best of Leon Pryce," Reilly said.

"He is an outstanding player. He is strong in every facet of the game. Leon's a big, tough kid who has a good pass and is very elusive. Pryce is a key player."

Australians will remember Pryce from a controversial comment he made during the 2006 Tri-Nations tour down under. Based at sunny Manly, Pryce said he would rather be home in grimy northern England and claimed he would prefer to live in Bradford than Sydney's northern beaches.

At the time, Pryce was told to shove off back to England, but now he's back and his English side is preparing to cause a World Cup boilover.

"I think England are a real chance," Reilly said.

"Australia are a skilful outfit but if the English forwards muscle up, and they've got to, then they will take the game to Australia. If England can score early and get some confidence, they can build on that. I think the game is wide open.

"I don't think an Australian win is the foregone conclusion a lot are predicting. I'd love to see a competitive game.

Yeah, Heaps better than johns and fulton, OMG, If only AUS could pick him they would be unstoppable... oh wait they are.

He wouldnt make the Australian squad. He is a bit like Inglis at club level, he is a centre playing at 5/8th. He is definitely not better than Robby or Johns. Never will be either

He is a very poor man's (think Ziggy the bag man) Greg Inglis.

"He'd be a star every weekend if he played in the NRL."
HAHAHAHAHHAHA, I love that part.
