Limited Jerseys

Think what you like. You're an Australian team. Leave the Maori / Islander stuff to the Kiwis. If anything, I know a lot of Kiwis who would find it offensive that an Australia team is celebrating NZ heritage.

Rugby League is an International game and is a game played by Australian's, Kiwis, Aboriginal Australian's, The Pacific Island Nations and all the players from Europe, as well as the others not covered.

Why would anyone find it offensive that a team is celebrating their player's (past and present) heritage? You must know a lot of uptight Kiwis then if that is offensive. This isn't the South African cricket team from the 70's. This sport is not just played by white people.

Why are you so against it?

Because South Sydney is in Sydney. Not Auckland.

That would be like the Warriors running around in Aboriginal colours and paintings.

If you actually see what the jersey is about you will see that is it a mixture of maori culture, tongan culture, samoan culture, aboriginal culture and australian culture..I'm sure there is some others thrown in there as well.

I think it would be stupid for a kiwi to get offended seeing as we aren't 'celebrating' these cultures for for the fun of it. They represent the different backgrounds that make up South Sydney at the moment and represent our players.

My opinion. I don't like it, I don't agree with it.

How many Warriors players since their history have been Aboriginal? Would it be enough to justify having an Aboriginal jersey? No.

Compared to a team with 100 year history of an area that has a deverse history of cultures. South Sydney being one of the first teams that broke down the door for indigenous players to be excepted with their white teammates.

Good for them. Anything you say is not going to change my opinion of an Australian sporting team displaying prints of another country on their gear.

I am not trying to change your mind, because your view has always been pretty narrow.

Perhaps not to you, but maybe for others it does? Or do I just need to comply to what someone who's never actually experienced both cultures before thinks?

I lived on both sides, and I think I'm more than allowed to hold onto an opinion that I don't like it, and don't agree with it.

Just like these white Kiwis who think they're Maori, so get full sleeve tattoos. Halfwits.

I guess we'll continue to look at this from two completely different points of view.

I don't agree with Australia having anything to do with traditional Maori and Islander art, just like I wouldn't agree with NZ happily displaying Aboriginal art.

Well in regards to this argument you couldn't have lived on both sides as that would mean you have been pacific islander and australian....

You realise Pacific Islanders migrated to New Zealand don't you?

Be so kind and tell me what tribe's art is displayed on the jersey....

You do realise that New Zealanders have also come over here as well.

Also the Koru is actually a plant that symbolises new life, peace and strength to the Maori people. Does it actually belong to one tribe? You're the so called Kiwi, who does it belong too?

yes I do realise that but pacific islanders also include samoans, tongans so I don't get your point??

Just because you lived in New Zealand doesn't mean that you have seen it from a P.I point of view. How would I know what tribes art is on the jersey? They probably haven't even used a specific tribe but rather the characteristics of that cultures art. I'm sure in the video it says that the basket weave is something that is commonly used in maori art so that is something that has been included in the jersey. It doesn't represent a tribe to be exact but rather a part of the maori heritage.

Aha. I'm not talking about what the art is made up of, I'm talking about the design of said art.

What tribe does it belong to? Or did Souths just design it themselves?

And "so called", I don't understand?

I don't think it belongs to any tribe and is a representation (designed by Souths) of the Koru plant, as mentioned already. The Koru being the reason for all the spirals in traditional Maori art. If you do not know what a Koru plant is (just incase)

And for the so called comment, you have lived on both sides, so you are more Kiwi than us, so I thought you would be able to let us know the insight of a Kiwi.
