They actually need to show that they can play like a top 4 team before it should be classed as the standard requirement.
Since Lockyer retired in 2011 we've finished in the Top 4 three times... the two grand final years and 2017.
Broncos always get talked up as a top 4 roster... not just recent years, but pretty much every year since the golden years.... but they quite clearly isn't the case.
This year hasn't even been all that great, next year they need to improve massively again... but that's where this team keeps falling over.
Sad Note: that 2011 season is so disappointing to see... I thought 2015 was our best defensive year, but 2011 was actually better conceding 372 in 2011 compared to 379 in 2015

Injuries. The biggest factor. The top teams again (especially Canberra) have enjoyed roster consistency. 2011 we lost Lockyer and it understandably fell apart. We were a legit chance that year until it happened.

As much I love Gillo, he’s not a 5/8, although he did his best.
We had Hunt on the ****ing bench instead of in the halves and only barely lost to Manly and would’ve played the Warriors in the GF and definitely would’ve won.

Ha ha me too. The sight of one end full of Wahs singing their hearts out was the highlight. The game was pretty shit if I recall correctly.

I didn't agree with the selection, but they didn't 'barely' lose, they lost convincingly 26-14 with Brisbane scoring a late consolation try.
Manly led 16-0 early and used that buffer to their advantage.
It was always going to be tough without Hoffman. Copley bombed an early opportunity and then the try to seal it came off a Beale mistake.
Even so, the signs weren't great going into the game. Brisbane recorded an unconvincing win against an understrength Manly in the last round. It was one of those games where Brisbane didn't take their early opportunities, Manly caught fire but had a try disallowed that would have given them the lead. Brisbane hung on, were finally able to extend their lead and that was all she wrote.

**** me dead. Storm and Panthers have just rested a heap of players meanwhile we have to play a near full strength cowboys with lots of injuries.
Now Bellamy just confirmed next week he is naming his best side to play against us. Feels like these teams are all trying to **** us over. Bellamy has always rested players the last round not the second last round but now because it’s us and we have a potential to be playing for a top 4 spot he will name his best possible side.
Honestly we need 4th and hope that we somehow win and get two weeks off and we could be a chance of getting reyno, mam and x back?

To be honest, if we're going to be any danger in the finals we need to be able to beat Melbourne. If we get past Cowboys tomorrow night and beat Melbourne next week it is a trip to Canberra to have a week off and host the prelim.
