THE BOSS Maguire Stomped The Naysayers! But...8 Months Later, Here We Are.

Why does Madge get such an opportunity? He had a chance at the tigpies and they went backwards.
Because a coach needs more than 12 months. You need time to work out who is hear for a laugh, celebrity and image. While also finding some guys who want to play footy a win a premiership.

Madge had a lot of absolute cats at the Tigers. We have a bunch that think they are top shit and need a reality check.

I am a believer that coach has until he has the squad he wants. Usually about three years. I know that's crazy when we shouldn't be in a rebuild but I think our problem is balance. We lack any type of aggressive dominant enforcer. No second row depth and way to many hookers.

We have Payne a workhorse and Pat another workhorse who I don't actually think loves bruises.

On Pat, I don't know the bloke and rather like how he plays but for me it obvious when he is offside with the coach. It was obvious with Kev last year and the little I have seen this year he says one thing about playing prop but his face says another. He obviously holds a lot of say amongst the boys. I wish he would stand up beyond his workload and become an enforcer, forget fixing his hair ever second and prepare himself to have his face split open. Like he did with his origin debut. He has it in him but currently it looks like he loves groupies more.

Goes for most of our guys. They have talent but also love their own reflections. That's ok if you're the best but for a long while we have not been the best. Sailor earned the right to love himself.

I think Pat during origin will be very interesting.

Billy will absolutely play him at lock and if he goes out there and plays with an obvious uptick in effort, then I think it will show that he wants to play 13 instead of prop.

After watching 360 tonight I am starting to believe the story line of players complaining.
Every journo who comments on the Broncs is saying the same thing. Maybe they are all just parroting Buzz, like they all know, but it doesn't feel that way.
It's a worry because if true I would say Pat is involved. He is the alpha in that group, if there is one, he would know about it, so he either is complicite and not putting a stop to it or he is the one having a moan. Not matter how you carve it there is a lack of leadership/respect/buy in whithin the playing group.

Yes. WB has always said to his forwards, you have to be prepared to pay the price. ATM we are not a team thats wants to do that.

James Graham and Cheese spoke about the broncos and Madge on their podcast.

They basically said, either the team needs to go to market to sign a bunch of players that suit the coaches style - a la the Bulldogs

Or the coach needs to adapt to their style to suit the team they have.

Both agreed that Madge doesn’t have the option A, because our cap is maxed out.

Both seemed to agree that the team has the talent but also that it has a soft underbelly.

The interesting part to me, is that Graham described Madge as an extremely intense coach. He hasn’t played under Madge but has heard it enough from players who have.

Cheese agreed with this comment based on his time in the kiwi camp.

It’s the first time I’ve heard a player who has actually played under Madge reinforce the “extremely intense coach” stories.

Could be that a few of the players have a bit of a grudge still simmering from the Reece and Madge incident. Pat and Reece are best mates .. it probably still stings.

Maybe Pat can see the effect the fallout from the hit has taken on his little mate.

One thing is for sure, if Madge ends up booted from us because he loses the dressing room it will be his last NRL gig .
No team will go near him with a rep like that from 3 clubs.

I just look at Tino, that man is an out and out leader. He holds the Titans club above himself and his mates. When Des was on the ropes he went out and dragged his boys to victory. You could see in the preser he will stand with Des. He also supported Holbrook, he is a guy who buys in.

We don't have that and unfortunately I don't think Pat is showing the same glimpses of leadership he did. Not the touted future origin and international Captain. I am not off him, despite how it may sound. I respect his role has changed and he may not be feeling his game is where it was but it would be good to see him come off the back fence and just throw everything he has into owning the middle.

I would also love him, Payne and Arey come out and back the coach publicly.

These rumours need to be set straight or the boys sit down and have an honesty session. You can't just sit there and not take some ownership.

If anyone listens to Levels podcast the boys nailed it. The Broncos outside of Ren/Hunt is showing zero footy IQ. So many of the fans on this forum have been saying this for years. All talent, all looks but never grasped the basics and appear totally unaware of their shortcomings. It's the Dunning-Kruger effect of sport. So much so they sabotage the coach.

Speaking of WB, its crazy how he transformed that Souths team in just 1 pre season. Probably a bit similar to us in 24 - great roster, but too soft/buch of quitters. It's too bad they've had so many injuries.

A man manager like Bennett is pretty much what we need right now.

Tino having a small-town upbringing probably helped a lot in that regard.

Pat, Reece, Payne, Ezra, Reynolds are all city boys.

I think this is absolutely the case, I think Madge is trying to bend this team into his gritty, defence focus structured gameplan and I just don't think most of the current group have it in them and they hate it.

Under Kevvie we looked our best when attack was more of the focus, I think Madge needs to release the defensive reigns and structure a bit and get these boys back to enjoying their football and focusing on using the football to score points.

A prime example is look at Reece, his game has been flipped on its head under Madge and what has it done, it's destroyed his confidence completely. Reece is not this defence focused, high percentage play style fullback, he is a running attacking player, that is his strength.

Well, the flaw in that is they also highlighted that Melbourne’s dominate era has taken a step back since they shifted focus more toward attack post Cam Smith retiring - saying they haven’t won a comp since their style shifted to suit the new group of Storm players

I'd take a guaranteed top 4 finish every season tho. One of those seasons you'll win a comp if you're there.

That’s what a good coach does though - he looks at his squad and while trying to embed his brand, still recognises their strengths and tries to cater to them. Maguire seems to have a my way or highway approach which doesn’t work if you haven’t already established buy in and it really seems like the team is not buying in.

It will be very interesting to see what happens from here. Can you bring the side together and turn it around or has he already lost the dressing room and it will go south very quickly like last year. If he’s lost the dressing room, it’ll show very quickly with our team or Prima Donnas.

The way they play looks extremely similar to last season. Frantic attack, no attention to detail, ill-disciplined, brainless. If Maguire has tried to shake up the gameplan they are not listening.

It's well known that Bellamy likes a certain type of player. Would be very interesting to hear what he thinks of our lot and who he'd like to have.
