THE BOSS Maguire Stomped The Naysayers! But...8 Months Later, Here We Are.

Too early to sack him just yet however;
We are now at the point where if he continues to not make changes i.e Patty back to 13, Mozer in for Paix, BTK on the bench (at a bare minimum) etc and persists with the current 17 then yes, his time will be up.
We are seeing absolutely zero and i mean fat ****ing zero improvement in this squad. And let’s be honest, we have had a relatively decent draw up to this point. We should be top 4, minimum.
I am hoping that he has given himself and the squad to the bye/SOO 1, so now, to see if the team buys in. But they clearly haven’t, so I would be making required changes this morning so that they can spend the next two weeks training and getting comfortable (obviously other then those picked for SOO, and I’d say they will have a break).
There is such a clean out that needs to happen, including a backflip on extending Reyno (he looks so tired/done) and I would honestly be reconsidering Staggs’ upgrade that he is apparently close to signing/already signed. There have been some worrying signs the last two weeks.
Either this squad has zero faith in Madge’s systems or a complete clean out is required. Or, possibly both.
I would genuinely be ok with losing anyone in the squad outside Payne and Patty.
Big changes are required - you don’t get two tries scored on you when the opposition has a player in the bin if things are drastically wrong.

It was interesting to hear in the last presser when asked if the team were following his instructions on the field that Madge answered a hard yes.

So straight from the horses mouth , they’re being instructed to play this way.
"Hey Kotoni, Deine, Jesse and Selwyn, any time you get the ball close to the sideline, ignore all your support players on the inside and go for the hail mary in the corner. You won't score it, but I really want my players to back themselves and take the tougher option every single time. Especially if it's not the last, at no point are you to step inside away from the touch line".

"Hey boys, now I know we give away an obscene amount of penalties and six agains, and I know that's having an impact on our game, but this is the week they just stop blowing them against us. Don't change a thing, it's them not us."

Yes, I understand he said that in the press conference, but he is trying to back the players (at least publicly). He isn't going to go into the press conference and say nah they're not following any of my directions, is he? Be a real quick way to get them offside.

We have players that are absolutely failing at basic football requirements, and aren't taking in whatever the coaching staff is providing them. They can't be.

I know the old boys and the club have never been further apart.
They've got the shits big time with Kev and Alf no longer involved.
That's why they held the old boys gathering at the Creek on Friday at the same time as the Lions Broncos lunch at the Star.
The old boys won't be going back to the club until Alf says they can.
Seems they're happy to cause as much pain as possible to make their point.

Madge will not be sacked. That would mean the board admitting they got it wrong
He will be given time to change the roster so dig in for at least 2 more years.

And so he ****ing should.

What's the point of hiring a new coach, but not give them the time they need to effect change
100% agree. I honestly thought Kev would have been given this year and while not a believer I thought should have been given it because of 2023.
After the internal review and player feedback the club backed the playing group. At this point the playing group has burnt through any credit they had.
Madge wasn't coming for a rebuild but he's got one. Probably a tweak more than a rebuild but he needs to get some balance back namely trimming the 9s and 7s , and replacing the backrow spuds with some decent backrowers.
Also saving about 200 to 300k they're about to overpay Staggs.
I'm adding 2 and 2 here but I'm assuming this is what he meant when he told Buzzed " you have no idea what I walked into".

We can sit here and scrutinise what we think the team should or shouldn't be but at the end of the day, Madge has to stick to what he believes in and if all works out, it won't matter what we have to say (not that it matters anyway).

Some of the changes people are calling for are only relevant changes because we haven't seen them fail yet. Mozer hasn't exactly knocked down any doors to get his crack.

It sucks in the short term but the club has to back and so do the fans, we have no other choice. This is the decision they made, they didn't believe Kev was a good footy coach. Now we have to give him an opportunity to build the team he wants with the standards he deems as acceptable.

I can't imagine Mozer could do any worse than Paix dished up in his 20 minutes.

When was the last time you watched him play?

There are certainly some red flags, Madge's bench use has been bizarre, and sticking with a team that just isn't working and not trying something different, he is either trying to back his players or just doesn't trust the depth.

It's just weird.......
My vote is zero trust in depth.

The newest James Graham and Cheese podcast is a great listen for a lot of insight from Cheese on playing under Madge.

I recommend everyone listen to it.

He basically says a big portion of the Kiwi squad had issues with Madge - his intensity, his personality. Eventually they decided that they’re on good money and that Madge’s goal is the same goal they have. Once they all accepted it and bought in they started getting success.

He basically says that Madge’s way is the hard way, the training is full on. Says it’s complicated but he’s putting the current situation on the players.
