THE BOSS Maguire Stomped The Naysayers! But...8 Months Later, Here We Are.

This is a seriously flawed argument. Just because a coach at one club can do something doesn't mean you can just copy it at another club and get the same result.

Bennett doesn't handle pre-season, but I wouldn't suggest Hannay copy that and expect the same result.

Straw man harder.

I agree with @Foordy in principle but I’m just not sure it should be Maguire and definitely not right now but Maguire definitely gets full reign next year and lives or dies on what happens. There needs to be clear systems in place otherwise remove him and chase Webster who has clearly been able to implement a system in NZ or even Cleary. Webster though is the guy I’d be chasing if Maguire doesn’t work out.

consider this.

During our 19 year premiership drought we had 6 coaching changes. that is a lot of changes to tactics, recruitment targets (style of player you're brining in or letting go), training style, coaching intensity and possibly development.

During our premiership drought and coaching instability we missed the finals 6 times (one was a wooden spoon) ... we've only missed the finals 8 times total in our entire history.

whoever coaches this club moving forward needs to be a long term coach that you can build your entire football program around. A program where the NRL team knows what style the coach wants to play (without it constantly changing because the coach has been sacked again); one where there recruitment team knows exactly what sort of player the coach likes to target; one where the fringe players are able to step in seamlessly when called up because they know exactly what they need to do.

If Madge isn't that guy and he was brought in solely for his drought breaking ability, then sack him tomorrow. no point waiting until the end of the year or early next year. we're simply wasting more seasons by doing that.

you have a look all the clubs that have had sustained success they've all had systems built around their coaches, coaches who held positions for more that a cup of coffee. Bennett (Broncos, first stint); Bellamy, Trent Robinson. Cleary is a bit of an anomaly, because he had been around for 11 years without success (including his first Panthers stint, where he was sacked by the man credited with rebuild the club) before stepping into a rebuilt Panthers system.

I mentioned it in my post just above this one, but I'm not convinced Cleary can be successful outside his current Panthers system.

Before returning to the Panthers in 2019, he had been coaching for 12 years without any success. he coached at 3 different clubs where his highest winning record was in his first job at the Warriors (50%).

he was even sacked by Gould in his first Panthers stint. his success came with a generational player (at least at club level) in Nathan and a system that had been rebuilt.

So when you say sign Madge to a long term contract, what are you calling.long term?

I was impressed with his approach to team selection in 2025. I was impressed by the fitness and the scramble defence.

I haven’t really seen much in the way of strategy. Which is something that no one in the game who isn’t named ‘Cleary’ can hold a candle to Craig.

Craig might be intense but his footy IQ means you can’t question him. Madge might be equally or more intense than Craig but being flogged only gets you so far without tactics
For all of his super high footy iq he’s only won 1 more premiership (all of them with the best player of all time in cs9) than Madge and doesn’t have the rep/ overseas accomplishments.

Mass injuries to key players and extreme fatigue from a 3-4 week preseason/ scrambling to cover for injuries (playing blokes more mins than they should week on week) makes this season a write off. At least we’ve seen a ray of hope in Willison developing into one of the best forwards in the game, and blokes like Semu looking promising

That’s the thing about agendas, you can just ignore anything that doesn’t fit them. Payne literally held a press conference where he said it is for family reasons and the discussion from pedo looking scumbags like Riccio immediately after was “guys, we still have no idea why Payne is leaving The Broncos”

In my mind, unless he somehow doesn't get a decent offer from Japan/ France/ r360 if it exists, then he’s definitely going overseas in after this souths deal. He’s besties with sbw lol

Bring Ben and Shane back to the club as assistants with a handshake deal to take over if Madge gets the boot.

Make sure to do it before a certain son signs on for '28, for.... reasons...

I’m surprised more wasn’t made of that Ben Robert’s smith fiasco. I was expecting the media to go ballistic but nobody gave a ****. The club is cooked for allowing it.

As an aside I am amazed you have an issue with BRS. I’m not trying to be controversial or have a go but given you opinions on Trump and others you have put on this forum I am shocked that you have such an issue.

Brent Read the smug little **** basically sums up what we are dealing with with the media on the Sunday Sin Bin today. Apparently Weidler has an article out with Payne and one of the questions is if he has an issue with Madge and he says no he likes him, Read spins that into it being the wrong question and should have asked if he likes the intensity of Madge and then bizarrely claims that everyone likes Madge.
