Manly Toyota Cup player Shane Gray has become the second rugby league player this season to test positive to a performance enhancing drug.

Like former international backrower Reni Maitua, Gray returned a positive result to Clenbuterol following the testing of his A sample.

Gray, a front rower with the Sea Eagles' under 20s side, was immediately suspended by the NRL pending the results of his B sample.

Cronulla backrower Maitua last week accepted a two-year ban following his positive test.

This guy is a bloody dipshit! doesn't he realize that with all the testing they do these days these is an excellent chance that you'll get caught...MORON [icon_thumbs_do

I think a lot of these guys just don't realise what is in whatever they are taking - especially some of the younger guys. It's no excuse and ASADA hammers everyone about making sure they know 100% everything in anything they put in their system and to check everything with the hotline; but they don't always - they think no-one would give them something that's illegal.

the thing is clenbuterol is not legal for human use in this country so, it won't be in anything that the player has bought legally. and if the player has just taken something blindly that has been given to him then he is a moron and if the person that gave it to him happens to be associated with the club or game in anyway then that person needs to be banned

Oh I agree with you. But I see it happen all the time. Young player, naive, looking for a bit of an edge. Someone comes along, sells them a 'vitamin' - does a real sell job on them, they buy and use it without much thought. Yes moronic - but I don't think he has knowingly or purposely taken Clenbuterol.

Maitai is a bigger idiot - was probably a similar scenario, but he has been around a lot longer

If a player is buying 'vitamins' from unknown sources and not have a think about they are really, really, stupid.

I don't think they are naive, and I believe that more U20s are taking performance enhancing drugs more than we think.

These blokes are still teenagers and they are all huge. It does make me wonder how they get so bloody big, with having so little time to become that way. Traditionally, it used to take years for players to build up muscle mass. Even Mason was relatively tiny when he started as was Webcke. Now they come into the game as big as regular first graders who have been in the game for more than 5 years.

The NRL is very competitive and there isn't really a reason to think why a U20s player wouldn't be looking for an extra edge to help them.

ALL professional sports are rife with it. In every grade of every sport that offers money for good results more than 50% of the competitors are on the juice, imo.

I'm surprised more players haven't been outted for this sorta stuff.

Oops...sorry this is PB!! [icon_lol1. [icon_lol1. [icon_lol1.
