McGuire pledges to bring Brisbane a title

I'm very interested to know why you feel McGuire is tier 2 level @BigPete? And number of origin appearances are no big thing when comparing a Qld and NSW prop in recent times as Qld hasn't had to change a winning team very often and yet Moose still managed to force his way in. Who hasn't been chosen for NSW? Even Grant, Mannah, and Poore, etc were given a go. Even Josh Jackson is considered a star in that side. Klemmer played for Australia and went well but Moose was noticeably making an impact for Samoa at the same time and had people asking why he wasn't picked for Australia instead of some of the blokes they chose.

McG in my opinion is absolutely top shelf because of his workrate and ability to back up big effort after big effort.

All that said, I still think he would be a perfect replacement for Parker at lock when he calls it a day.

Klemmer gets wraps for his potential and the occasional 5 minute good stint. Of which I can count on one hand for his whole career.

McGuire might not have quite the impact but he keeps it up for every minute he's on the field.

I know who I'd prefer.

But Bromwich, Burgess, JWH, Scott are on another level. For now.

Let's be honest, Samoa were treated like the bye in the Four Nations. Nobody was saving their best players for Samoa, they knew they'd win and nearly had their pants pulled down because of their half-hearted efforts. Meanwhile, everyone rose for Australia and despite having it all to do, Klemmer rose to the occasion and would help turn the tide alongside Ben Hunt. Also, did you see what number was on his back when he played for Samoa? Was it 8? Was it 10?

Also, how far back are we going here? Mannah? Poore?! Let's throw Tupou in there for good measure. In 2015, NSW were stacked for props and they were like a kid in the candy store. They sort of psyched themselves up too much in Game I & III but showed they could easily match if not BETTER Queensland in the middle. Which is no mean fete when you've got Mat Scott (1st Tier Scott), Myles (who finds 1st tier when he wears Maroon, 3rd if not 4th without it) and Corey Parker who in my mind is a Top 10 player in the WORLD. That's something I never thought I'd say in 2008 but there you go. As an aside, Jackson is treated merely as a replacement. He came in for Gallen, did a job and that was that. Outside of Sterling who has a soft spot for him, the media weren't raving about Josh's performances in Origin. In the end, he got recognition at the Dally Ms but it was for a category where there were no stand outs. For mine, he's their attempt at selecting a Dallas Johnson esque player, to prove that annoying 'if Tongue was a Queenslander he would have played 20 Origins and had a park named after him' story that gets thrown around everytime a Queenslander thinks they can play arm-chair selector for NSW.

McGuire is a very good player but he lacks that gear the top tier props have. The likes Scott, Bromwich, Woods, Burgess and as much as it pains me to say JWH has. He isn't going to bust through too many TOP LINE defensses. He'll carry the ball a lot of times and he'll do his JOB among the best of him, but he isn't in that category and I don't think he'll join them for an extended period. Meanwhile, I think Klemmer will much to my dismay as a Queensland fan.

Considering Josh's health, it's a miracle he's even playing rep footy, I'll say that much.

Getting an Aussie jersey under the Sheens flavour of the month regime means shit.

Klemner is a flat track bully that went missing when it mattered. I'd take Mooses heart the size of Phar Lap every day of the week.

Woods is the typical stupid hair cut that Channel 9 soak up

Klemmer for me is like Taupau. Not bad players, but they get their reputations off the back of a few explosive moments in a season. If Klemmer didnt run around in origin like an idiot throwing punches everywhere people wouldnt be talking about him in the way they do. This new interchange wont do Klemmer any favours either at the moment. He has got a lot of development in him though and he needs to build himself up to play bigger minutes.

Moose will thrive with the new rules. He is capable of playing big minutes and he has a fantastic engine and work rate. I think he will go from strength to strength personally.

I agree with most of what you have said, but I do believe he has the extra gear and it isn't the same as the big props. He has great speed for a prop and he can alone with his size break through the line when it matters, you just watch him next year, he will kill it.

I think he'll do fine and would not be surprised to see him make the difference between victory and defeat in October. However, it'd be a disservice to expect him to be among THE elite.

At the risk of stepping on more toes, I wouldn't consider Adam Blair a top tier prop either. However, that doesn't mean he can't make an impact and play his part on the big stage.

Which would be a huge achievement given what he's coming up against.

With reduced interchange, McGuire will get even better. We've seen his incredible fitness, he's managed to play 80 minute games at prop with ease.

Bromwich is a freak, but I'd take McQuire over Woods or Klemmer any day of the week. I rate Klemmer, but he doesn't have the minutes in him that Josh has (might start to be a detriment next season with reduced interchanges), and most of his aggression is just pure idiocy that hurts his team. Woods is an overrated stat merchant who doesn't make the same impact that Josh, Jesse, or Klemmer do, he also goes missing when the going gets tough.

FYI

Average Minutes

Josh McGuire - 50.3
David Klemmer - 42.5
Aaron Woods - 55.3

Woods is in the infancy of his career and is already starring in the Origin arena (completely outplayed Scott in Game II) and was among one of the best players during the first half of last season. Woods doesn't have the calibre of stars around him Josh has, yet still shines with the best of them.

I've got no doubt in my mind right now that Aaron Woods is the better player right now than Josh McGuire. Klemmer is in the vicinity and is ahead of Josh in certain categories. Based on his age and what I've seen from him, I believe he'll have a brighter future than Josh.

There's no shame in that and I think Josh will still go onto have a very good career. I said it after Round 1 vs Souths, but I think it's only a matter of time before this Broncos squad wins another premiership. Their qualities were apparent from day dot, it was just going to take some time to develop.

Woods & Bromwich are clearly the best props in the world at the moment for mine, Matulino & Warea-Hargreaves also had moments early last season where they were in the discussion, McGuire pre-injury was probably still a top 6-7 prop in the world, he was monumental last season.

The way I'd rank them currently -

1. Bromwich
2. Woods
3. Scott
4. Warea-Hargreaves
5. Matulino
6. McGuire
7. Tamou
8. G.Burgess
9. Graham
10. Fifita/Klemmer/Kasiano

Sam Burgess will obviously crack that list this season, just depends how well he comes back from union

While I agree both Mcguire and Blair shouldn't at present be regarded as top tier props I do regard them higher in one regard, versatility and mobility and that really suits how the Broncos operate as a side, I also think it's a reason why Blair has done better at sides like the Storm and the Broncos and for New Zealand. Not mismanaged to be something he isn't like at the Tigers, expect him to be a battering ram and your going to be disappointed.

As for Mcguire he didn't set the world on fire in he's first state of origin series but you can hardly dismiss him either, I have seen bigger name players over the years get found out in their first series or even further in and personally I think Mcguire has a future there playing to he's strengths rather then dismissing him because he's not the dominating metre gainer some here expect him to be. It's funny because a lot of the best Queensland forwards in State of origin's history have actually been regarded in the second tier, I see no reason why Mcguire can't do the same.

I agree with you. The classic example of this from the dim dark past was Dave Brown who would get picked for State of Origin on occasions even when he was in reserve grade in Sydney.

I wonder what this will mean for Blair.

Will he drop off a bit?

He was good before McGuire got injured, but he didn't go up that extra gear until McGuire got injured. It forced him to step up to try and fill the void..

I hope he keeps playing like McGuire is injured.

I don't think so and to be honest he was going up gears prior to that just as Anthony Milford, both being at new clubs meant time to re adjust wasn't surprising, it may not have been immediate but the proof was there.
