It's happened because the media became less local, once at Broncos training every session you would have had Patty Welsh, Steve Hadden for 9 and 7 and then Ricketts, Dick, Durkin, Malone, Heming, Collins and Crash. They'd all learnt their craft through the BRL days and knew the game in Brisbane very well. Then you had RLW too coming out every Wednesday and Joel Gould writing for them. Those guys whole world was the Broncos, they didn't give a rat's if something was happening at the Sharks.
Now you have Badel at News and Dobbo at 9. They've stopped local media and local knowledge. The competition is bigger and it all needs to be covered and 95% doesn't need to be covered but we now need to fill endless hours.
The media is centralised there is no local knowledge anymore. It's just NRL media.
Look at the media HOF at Lang Park, they won't add to that for a long while.
Those guys didn't just have whatever they wanted either, I know they did favours for Wayne and did and didn't write things but they were also very good at what they did.
Bennett didn't speak to Ricketts for two years because of something he wrote just ignored him. Ricketts would stand there at training- Wayne how do you think you'll go this week against the Dragons.
Thanks guys see ya.
They were great mates too and the chief league writer for the paper that owns the Broncos!
