NEWS Milford is back, baby

As Anthony Milford heaped sugar onto his Coco Pops Monday morning, he had no idea he was about to be tasked with his biggest challenge yet. To guide his former club, the Souths Magpies, to their first premiership in 13 years. Get along to Davies Park at 3PM today to see him in action:

“I didn’t know what to expect. We went through the video and he pointed out some things in my game I wasn’t doing well. I agreed. To hear I was dropped ... it was tough. I’ve never been in a position to hear those words, but I have to get over the fact I’ve been dropped and use it as a positive. I’ve always been a team-first player so whatever he thought was best for the team, I’ll accept it. While it’s disappointing, I’m hoping it’s a blessing in disguise.”

“I haven’t been up to the standards that I set myself and Kevvie’s as well. The truth is I need to be better. I have to be accountable.”

“I have some mixed emotions. Some nerves, but some excitement, too. I’m going to have a lot of family and friends coming to support me so I’m looking forward to playing some football."

Glory is only the beginning

“I am pretty keen to get back to a club where I played Cyril Connell and Mal Meninga Cup. It’s not a new club for me. I will be going back to see some familiar faces and it’s a club I love because that’s where I started out. One thing I’m excited about is playing with Karmichael Hunt. Souths have a few ex-NRL players, Albert Kelly and Kevin Locke are there, so when I went to training on Wednesday it opened my eyes up to the quality of players there.”

“I’ll be honest, I’m not too sure what my future is at the Broncos. It’s out of my control really. I’m leaving the contract stuff to my manager and we’ll see what happens. In an ideal world, I want to stay. That’s what I hope. But I understand the Broncos have a lot of players off-contract and it’s hard to keep everyone. But just because I’ve been dropped, I’m not going to be one of those players who jumps on the phone straight away wanting a release."

“Kevvie has reassured me as well that he hasn’t given up on me. He told me to go and enjoy myself in Queensland Cup, get some confidence from playing there and then see how I go and try and find my way back into the team. I’ve copped it. I have to be better. I know there is a lot of noise around me, but I know I’m not done. I will be back.”

“I don’t look at my contract as a burden. It’s the nature of the beast. The scrutiny is what comes with playing football at this level. I am at a pretty powerful club at the Broncos and there is always a big focus on us. The Broncos expect to be in the finals every year and they expect to be winning more games than they lose. The year we made the grand final, it was a huge confidence thing for me."

Won't let them down

“As a group, we had built a lot of momentum and there was a lot of self-belief and the team gave me the confidence to back myself. I did things that season that I didn’t think I was capable of doing because the self-belief in the team was so strong. For whatever reason over the past two or three years, I haven’t been able to perform consistently. It has affected my confidence.”

" Look, I’m not the best trainer at the club but I make an effort. I’ve always felt I’m a better player than a trainer. There have been a lot of great players over the years who weren’t the best trainers. One thing I know is I do care. I care a lot about winning games for the Broncos. Every game I go out there wanting to win. I’m not one to blame anything or anyone else for what’s happened. I’m not using injuries as an excuse. I’m not too sure how long I’m going to be at Souths Logan, but I want to get back in that Broncos jumper.”

Fair point of view and hope that your right but I'll show my lack of patience by saying this is the week for kev. After table thumping and throwing jerseys around, we need to see some more to his coaching because his selections are Siebold style at the minute. I don't dispute the crap halves situation but when you talk up one guy as the future that leaves and another that you say needs 4 to 5 weeks and bring him back after 2, its not exactly reassuring. As for respect, history, contacts and love ...f*&ck mate, we're looking for blokes to tackle hard, run hard and cut out the sub school boy level errors.
Kevvie's selections are Siebold like because the cattle he has is what Siebold left him with aside from Copely (injured in trial) and Asiata (injured in first week).

anyone judging Kevvie's results when we have played 1 team from the bottom half of the draw and the rest from the top (Parra twice) is either not a Broncos fan and is having a free pop, or they simply don't have a clue about what's going on at Red Hill.

Really? I disagree mate.
Kev has a shitshow 6&7 roster atm.

I think he's just doing his best to find out who are the best halves players moving forward... who do we keep & who do we **** off.

This year is already gone, I don't think anybody would disagree with that.

I feel (hope!) We have some astute signings that will be announced soon after our new CEO has his feet under his new desk.

Kev is no fool, he has a lot of respect, history, contacts & love in the NRL QRL & QLD origin circles.

IMO the shitshow that is the current Brisbane Broncos can't be fixed in one or two seasons. Kev knows this & is playing the long game.

I still have hope, just need to be patient.

I respect your well thought out post but I think the halves have already proven that none of them are worth keeping - so trying a different combination every 2 weeks is a futile endeavour. All it really does is make it near impossible for the rest of the team to work on their own games and build combinations with the guys beside them.

There was no right answer in the halves for Kev but what he needed to to was pick a pair and stick with them. Give it 4 weeks and if it’s a disaster then make a changes and repeat. Dropping halves for 1 or 2 weeks, playing them off the bench for 10 minutes, dropping 2 at a time, all it does is disrupt the rest of the team, the guys you might actually want to stick around.

Also if you’re a guy like DCE or Reynolds and you see that the halves are being manically shuffled every week, you would be second guessing going to the club.

It’s a delicate balance between holding players accountable and creating stability within the team. Players shouldn’t be dropped and promoted on a whim.

If it’s true that Turpin has been dropped for Levi than Turpin should be feeling very very hard done by. He was far superior to Levi.

Frankly I’m over these predictable responses to anyone who criticises Kev.

No one is criticising the results, they are rightfully criticising his decisions. I don’t think anyone criticised him after the panthers loss. Yeah we played well but it was also the first time his team selection was logical, a game plan was on display, and his bench use wasnt amateur.

Sorry matey , they're predictable because they reflect reality. It is what it is. Once Kevvie is given a chance to bring in his players of choice only then will it make rationale sense to criticise him for poor choices and duff team selections.

Can you explain that to me? Because I’m obviously missing something. Why are Seibold’s roster decisions causing Kev to completely misuse a bench or play the spine player raffle every week?

So your yardstick is based on other bottom 4 trash ? Come on.
I'm disappointed to have seen no improvement whatsoever but acknowledge its early days. I'm a KW fan and want him to do well but even the most steadfast of us have to admit there are some early signs that aren't great. I do appreciate this will take time and have come across more than a bit jumpy.

Leave the fan stuff out champ - a 17 year member, not 'fan'.

Cant take goat, i think hes blocked me. However he will probably be holding a milf banner up at this game.

Not sure what your point is there 'champ'. You can be a fan and not be a member.

It's quite simple he has a bunch of kids and a few also rans left to him by Siebold. When He came to the club he found Siebold had chosen to "burn the boats" and bet the house on youth. The rest is , as they say history. Kevvie is now sifting through the ashes trying to find a combination that works and a group who are willing to follow a simple game plan. Sure he's made some questionable decisions with his bench. It's so easy to find fault with everything he's doing at present though as the whole club is in shit order.

Don’t want to get my hopes up. You mean American Pie MILF ads right, not @broncsgoat Milf ads?
Does everyone just ignore the fact I’ve been saying he’s been playing like shit for the past two years? 😅

To be fair, if you sign Copley and then get surprised when he breaks down in pre-season then I'm sorry, but that's on you.

No surprises here. What would surprise me though was if his defence had improved.

Well if they are following my approach, I am just ignoring everything that you say :-) (kidding, just kidding)
