Surely they won't ping him for that? [icon_non

BRONCOS utility David Stagg last night insisted he had not been aware until told after full-time that he was the player who ended any hope of a fairytale comeback for Wendell Sailor in an incident that will come under scrutiny from the NRL match review committee.

....

Referee Ben Cummins, who whistled most of the 14 penalties - 10 to Brisbane and four to the Dragons - awarded during the match in the first half, took no action against Stagg and did not refer the incident to video referee Phil Cooley but NRL officials last night confirmed the incident would be examined on Monday.

"We will be looking at it for sure," match review chief Greg McCallum said.

Last week North Queensland lock Luke O'Donnell was suspended for seven matches on two striking charges over the use of his elbow when running the ball and another of abusing touch judge Russell Turner, while Parramatta's Brendan Oake accepted a two match ban for a similar incident.

And so on: http://www.leaguehq.com.au/news/lhqmatc ... 17977.html

Suspend him for...oh, the match before Origin III if possible.

He was in the process of falling to the ground on impact with Sailor!

Sailor had his head in the wrong position, it is ludicrous to say that Stagg went into that tackle with his elbow raised and with the intent to hurt Sailor.

What a joke it will be if he is suspended off the back of it!

Well from front on Dell hits him high too, they gunna look at that as well?

The MRC should also look at the referee standards in last nights game.

Ben Cummins should get life.

The more I look at it the more I think he may have a case to answer. He definatley wasn't leading with the elbow but he gets it out there to fend off Dell. Prertty similar to Oake last week.

Which should mean a week as a worst case senario, but whats the bet he gets 2 or 3.

Sorry - can't remember. Was Stagg running with the ball like Oake who used his elbow to fend off a defender, or was he defending against a player who was falling into him?

O'Donnell and Oake recived harsh penalties which were, in effect, mistimed fends IMO.

If it keeps going like this we may have to change the rules to say something like: Body contact in rugby league is OK unless it hurts.

I was thinking the same thing. Sailor got him high.

It was always a non issue because there is no careless or reckless ruling in the striking law only intentional, also I think Dell will need to be reprogrammed to tackle league style because that was a rugby tackle he tried with no shoulder contact b4 the arms. He'll cop a few more in the melon if he keeps that up.
