New POTS Format

Hey gang,

POTS will be undergoing a slight change this season, which will hopefully encourage more people to get involved in voting.

Instead of the weekly thread in this forum where you list your top three players, there will be a poll in the main forum for voting. This will be open to everyone.

The reason why this is happening is because in the two seasons that POTS has existed, everything starts off fantastically, but as the season progresses, less people tend to submit their votes. Whilst this new method probably won't be as accurate in determining who were the best players, what it will do (hopefully!) is bring a lot more votes. It will also make adding up votes insanely easier for me. :mrgreen:

The only real issue is whether to keep it at 3-2-1, which will be pretty much impossible with a poll, or to look at a new points system. I'll have that sorted by tomorrow night, so keep your cool.

Won't the poll still tell you who the 3 best players for each game were so you can still use the 3-2-1 format?

Although I guess it would be harder for people to put them in order

Haha, I know what you mean by it as well...but you've outlined the problem already - probably won't be able to tell who gets which points.

Not sure it's the way to go to be honest. You could obviously have everyone select 3 options in the poll, but say for example it is clear to everyone that Lockyer was the best player on the field by a long way, you're giving him the same amount of points as the third best player.

I reckon the 3-2-1 is the way to go. Why don't you ask all voters to register an email address if they want to vote, then send out a mass email after each game reminding them to vote?

Why not just open 3 different Polls each week? If you're going to open just 1 poll, then just open another 2 polls which are identical except have the title saying, "3 votes" "2 votes" etc.

Isn't that slightly cumbersome? Especially if the idea was to have the poll in the game thread which 95% of people on here will look at each week?

:idea: put everyone who plays that weeks name in 3 times and allow 6 votes. that way you can give your 3 two one. of course you'd have to trust the morons not to give 6 votes to gagai every week. :idea:

Not sure how many options you can have in a poll, but similar to what you suggest, could have something like:

Josh Hoffman (3)
Dane Gagai (3)
....
Josh Hoffman (2)
Dane Gagai (2)
...
Josh Hoffman (1)
Dane Gagai (1)
....

etc, and you pick one from each of the 17? That's 51 options though. Ouch.
