Kotoni Staggs has confirmed he also found out about Kevin Walters' sacking via the media, labelling it "not the right thing to do".
The announcement of Walters' departure caused shockwaves, with captain Adam Reynolds the first to reveal the players didn't find out through the club.
At the time, Broncos chief executive officer Dave Donaghy admitted "things can get out ahead of time".Speaking on 2GB's Wide World of Sports, Staggs revealed his disappointment at the process in how players found out.
With players on holidays, Donaghy said getting them on a call simultaneously was "challenging".
Speaking on 2GB's Wide World of Sports, Staggs revealed his disappointment at the process in how players found out.
"I have a good relationship with Kev, I loved playing under him," he said.
"He helped me get the best out of my footy. I was pretty down by the way we found out actually, it was off the news, that's not what you want to hear about your coach.
"I gave him a call after it and told him thanks for the last four years I've had, I learned a lot off him and wished him the best for his future.
"It wasn't the thing I wanted to see on the news ... that's not the right way to go about it I guess but we've got to move on from there."
After a season where the Broncos went from a grand final to 12th, the club's culture has come under fire.
Staggs denied there was an issue there as the club wrangles with the current situation surrounding Ezra Mam.
The Broncos five-eighth was involved in a car crash where he was alleged to be driving unlicensed and testing positive to a roadside drug test.
A young girl and mother suffered injuries in the crash. Mam has since checked himself into a rehabilitation clinic.
Staggs said Mam has "got a lot of support" and admitted "that's what I needed" when he previously found himself in the headlines for the wrong reasons.
The Broncos centre is backing his teammate to return in the future.
"I hope there's a spot there for him, I know he'll make sure he'll work 110 per cent to get back there and I just wish him all the best with his recovery," he said.
Jesus, is Kotoni looking to get sacked here too heh. A bit lippy towards his bosses when he is looking for a new contract from the club!
