I was fine with the call because the Eels chaser made a genuine attempt to compete for the kick before attempting the strip but I can see that argument as well. However, is a strip an attempt at tackle? Are all strips one in the same or can there be a tackle that turns into a strip?

I just think players nowadays know they basically have free reign to attack the hands of the defender if they pretend like they're going for the ball... I'd say 95% of them are just there to try and interfere with the player trying to catch it.

In that instance Brown probably is actually going for the ball, because it's in the ingoal, but he gets there late and it's his contact that causes the ball to come free.

I think it's hard enough as it is for defenders to take kicks nowadays that they shouldn't be having to compete with guys who are just running into them or jumping into them with their hands lower than the defender's basically as a legalised way to tackle them in the air.... as long as they have their eyes on the footy. They know exactly what they're doing and most of the time it's not to make a spectacular catch on a torpedo bomb

Honestly, I think the mid air tackle rule is rubbish and it shouldn't be illegal. Penalize them if they end up in a dangerous position, but if they don't, play on.

That would be so dangerously reckless and just turn the game into Rugby. Players box kicking and sacking players looking for turn overs or at least wind them.

I see what you're saying Bfan. I remember a couple of years ago, Latrell used to do that all the time. Come running in jump early and bowl over the opposition winger just so Tupou could stroll over untouched. It was farcical but 'he had eyes for the football'.

That would be fucking mayhem... wingers can already snot guys on backline movements if the timing is off slightly ... having a winger there as a sitting duck going for a bomb would see them copping shoulders into the guts 10 times a game.

It would be the easiest repeat set ever

At the moment their only real defence is to get themselves off the ground so they can't get belted in the first place.

No you can't.

But you can challenge the decision of a goal line dropout and get a penalty for a high shot in the process.
