NRL 2026 Round 1 Discussion

9 ****ing penalties ... 12 - 5...

Sign of things to come with the dogs getting kissed on the dick all year

Thats one of the most bullshit penalties you'll ever see. The player has a responsibility to hold the footy not just let it go. Dragons definitely hard done by if not robbed.

st george had no right making that game as close as it was based on the teamlists.
i dont know weather to be impressed by st george or unimpressed by dogs.

leaning towards dogs being just as a boring team as last year.
wich is odd thety have pletny of real exciting players in that team. if they can unlock those players attacking flair they could be a real threat.

Bulldogs attack is never going to go anywhere with Connor Tracey. He tried hard but he has a ceiling.

They'd probably look better with Burton over Xerri in centres, Galvin as a running 6 and SoS at 7. Dunno what other options they have for 1

Mitchell Woods at halfback maybe and Burton at 1.

Leo Thompson getting injured doesn't help. They signed him as they needed size.

They'll potentially shift to what they did at the backend of last year where Crichton moved into fullback inside the 20m and Tracy just played centre.

Doesn't really help them with their zero halfbacks problem though

It's a shame the game had to be decided on a 50/50 call. Both teams should have walked away with a point but alas.

I don't think the call was wrong, there was a raking motion from Couchman but you could certainly argue that he was just trying to lock up the ball and it was Xerri's loose carry more than anything that resulted in the spilled ball.

What I found amazing was both sides couldn’t construct a set to work for a shot at a field goal

Otherwise I was impressed with the Dragons. Sure, they have some issues and they'll never be the most flamboyant team but they played tough and some of their young charges played well. The Couchman brothers were strong through the middle and Stewart adds some mobility through the ruck.

I'd like to see Flanagan help out Atkinson more. 3 kicks to Atkinson's 21 is ridiculous - Kyle isn't a bad kicker by any means and I think Atkinson is better when he has more space and freedom. It's tough because the Dragons tend to play around the ruck with Cook and Gutho leading the attack but that's the challenge for Kyle moving forward.

I thought defensively he played well and came up with some big plays for the Red V.
