Thats not how it works. Thats the correct ruling. It is the same when a player is in support and a defender deliberately runs into the support runner to milk a penalty.

Except Tupou is in front and is not a viable option at that point.

You're not allowed to use your team mate as a blocker just because he batted the ball back.

The onus is on teddy to not run behind his own player, obstructing the defender and depriving him of a chance to tackle. There was an obstruction.
 
Wish the media weren't such a pussys and someone would call out Gee. It's absolutely blatant. Should be nowhere near a chooks game.
