Dolphins defended the FG terribly, but there were about 3 forward passes not called on Penrith before that during GP

There was a sus one to Cleary where it appeared Nathan was ahead of the ruck.

As glorious as it all is, what is going on at Melbourne? Is it a case of too much inexperience? I don't believe for a second that Bellamy has lost the dressing room.

I mean, surely they knew NAS and Paps were going but obviously the situation with Katoa came out of nowhere as did the issue with Tui. Coates doing his achilles was out of nowhere as well but the Storm is a system that has supposedly thrived on an elite spine with a bunch of moving parts around it that keep the machine humming.

Munster looks well past it, but I'm biased here and have never rated him at all. Hughes looks either out of ideas or seems to be taking the wrong option 9 times out of 10, Sua is young so you can't place too much blame on him and Grant doesn't seem to have that calming presence that Melbourne have had in the past. Cameron Smith he isn't. It's an odd feeling

I only caught the second half of tonight's game, but they looked really flat and it seemed like they had run out of ideas.

They want fast ptbs and then Harry running off the back of it... once the defence is condensed they spread it out to Hughes, Munster and Sua.

At the moment they can't generate quick ptbs so they're just playing off a slow ruck for the first time in Bellamy's coaching career.
 
I'm still suprised teams aren't using what I see is a massive loophole in the captains challenge anytime a defending team jumps to catch a bomb.

99% of the time a defender will make contact with the catcher before they hit the ground. Do they make a tackle in the air? No. Do they impact the play? No. But you can't make contact with them until they touch the ground.

I would purposely knock the ball on in the tackle then challenge contact in the air and win an easy penalty.

Most of the time there is only milliseconds in it. But if you watch closely enough, contact is made before they touch the ground.
 
I saw the highlights of the Panthers v Dolphins.

The Kikoroma one is a tough one. He probably shouldn’t have been binned in my opinion as there is absolutely no intention to cause damage at all and it just went slightly wrong.

However there is a twisting motion and an injury dies occur as a result. He should be fined but it is clearly an accident. I don’t think he should miss games.

This is probably what should have happened with Cobbo on Ganderson. Clearly an accident but still results in foul play and an injury. Penalty and fine sufficient
 
And surely, surely there is someone with a better voice than Matt Thompson. He is unlistenable.

How on earth did someone hear that voice and think yep, he is the one?

There will always be contact if you are competing for the ball .
That`s not a penalty .
You can`t jump without your eyes on the ball . And you can`t tackle mid air . But contesting is fair game .

How is going for a low tackle foul play ?
The ref said as much at the time . Tackling too hard ??

They have penalised for that.

Gamble copped it during Magic Round 2021. 'Overzealous tackling'.

Then Riki received a penalty against the Panthers in the same game where Gee decided he was also the video referee and overruled Klein.

It was a rough one and don't blame the officials for saying their hands were tied. However it could have easily come under a dangerous contact charge. I don't think anyone saw that tackle and said 'yep that was a just a regular low tackle, play on'.

Same official last year binned a player for provocation.

Dolphins should fight those charges against Kodi and Gilbert. Neither were a hip drop.

Does he have control, though? Is his hand still on the ball? You can't see that so not sure how you can go against the refs call.

You sure about that, Kevvie? How many players were in that tackle and they still couldn't stop a little 5/8 from scoring...

Probably not hard to see why you're not a coach anymore.
