NRL 2026 Round 9 Discussion

Geez that got ugly real fast for the Tigpies.
I only started watching in the 2nd half, but I'm not sure I've seen the tigers with the ball in any sort of relevant position.

Sharks score, make 60m on the kick off set, attacking kick to the corner, tigers can't get anywhere or drop it, sharks eventually score... repeat

It's been 2021 football where one team just isn't allowed to touch the ball

Second half stats has sharks at 73% possession and the ball spent less than 8mins in the sharks half... this is what the fans want baby!!!

That last Iro try.. didn't we have one taken off us a few weeks back for something similar

Yeah I only tuned in for the last 20mins and in that time the Tigers literally had one tackle in Cronulla's half. #forthefans

There was nothing wrong with how that particular game was refereed. The Sharks just blew them away.

Interesting of Cronk to say that Cleary has “4 grand finals” instead of “4 premierships”

This is from a deep dive into NRL results since 2020. What the numbers reflect

  • 2020: Shortened season but very uneven squads → high blowout rate despite fewer games
  • 2021: One of the most lopsided modern seasons (Storm, Panthers dominance)
  • 2022: Defensive rule adaptations reduced extreme margins slightly
  • 2023: Dolphins expansion + rule changes = spike in blowouts
  • 2024–25: Slight correction toward competitiveness, but still historically high
This pattern aligns with multiple season competitiveness reviews and margin trend discussions in NRL analytics circles.

SeasonMatches played20+ point blowouts
202020144
202120452
202220447
202321661
202421658
202521655
20267217

Now bear in mind, blowouts tend to blowout more as the season progresses. This does not include ridiculous scores like we had in the Newcastle game earlier.

With 20+ scores we have:
SeasonMatches30+ team scores
2020201186
2021204214
2022204201
2023216246
2024216238
2025216229
2026 *(to Rd 97282

So we are on track to be even worse than 2021 (factoring in number of games played) and remembering 2021 didn't have the same stupid rules for all the games.

Essentially, we are looking at somewhere around 270 30+ scores. Who wanted this?

Even as a neutral who doesn't give a shit about either of these teams, I cannot tell what the 6-again's are for. It's completely unhinged.

****ing Fox mentioning how "you just have to see Honest Victor's reaction to the judiciary charges" and how good it is, completely unprompted during the call.

They are deadset taking the piss, everyone knows it's ****ing laughable.

Talagi has been given insanely good ball tonight, but he's not really capitalised on any of it

We laugh about head knocks now... CTE ain't shit
