the Titans CEO has today come out and claimed that their plan is to win 2 NRL and 2 NRLW premierships by 2030 ... maybe they should worry about winning 1 before the start planning for a second ... hell, they haven't won a finals games since 2010, maybe they should try to win one of those before building their trophy cabinet

anyway, Titans CEO Steve Mitchell says:

“We are here to bring premierships to the Gold Coast – not a premiership, premierships,” he said. “We have aspirations to land two NRLW premierships and two NRL premierships.

“They’re not small aspirations and we don’t understate the work that’s involved in that, but that’s what we plan to deliver. We’re going to work hard on delivering that for our communities.

“You’ve got to be strategic about putting yourself in a window to make a grand final and win a grand final.

“We’ve got a very strong young player group that are just starting to get some cohesiveness about them. This group over the next three seasons has the ability to put a lot of time together, train together and build those relationships.

“I would think we’re going to have a premiership window some time in the first half of that strategic plan. Beyond that, the future Titans system and the kids we have in that program, are wonderful athletes and want to play for their home club. They’re not going away.

“That’s going to give us a window in the second half of the strategic plan.

“We’ve got nine years to deliver it and we know the work that’s involved. We’re confident we’ve got the people to do it, now we have to do the work to get there.”

“The work in this strategic plan and rebrand has been going all year prior to the expansion conversation,” he said.

“We’re congratulating Redcliffe for getting into the competition. It is a huge advantage for the code and when we play them down here we will have 23,000 people in the stadium. There is nothing but upside.

“We need to articulate where we’re heading and get stuck into the work.”

Tino Fa’asuamaleaui says:

“It’s good, it’s a goal of ours and it’s all motivating us so we do achieve it,” he said.

“Why would you play if you don’t want to win a premiership?

“If we back ourselves we can do it, if we put the hard work in the rewards will come. Hopefully we can hold that trophy up one day. I came here (from Melbourne) because I want to win a trophy here and bring the first one here. I’m going to work hard towards that.

“I don’t think we’re far off at all. Last year was a rollercoaster and learning curve but it was a good stepping stone for next year. We’re on the right path, we’re slowly building. We’ve got good people around the club which is good.”

I remember when Bulldogs made a similar statement about 10 years ago. Didn’t go to plan.

What Tino really wanted to say: “Mate this club isn’t going to win a premiership likely ever while paying blokes like Fifita twice their market value.

Additionally, I couldn’t care less, I’ve got one more season here only so if it isn’t next year then I hope it never happens.”

I like it; too long any Coast team just got by. They seem to have a plan now with Coast kids and know how they’re going to get there.

You get what you sponsor. If the NRL wants more development they need to encourage it, what's in it for the Broncs to develop these kids if they don't get a guaranteed benefit? Perhaps transfer fees?

Saw Josh Hodgson at my gym the other day. Guy was making us all look bad...

The panthers about to be bought crashing back down to planet earth if the two ref system makes a return
NSWRL got them their win so it's likely they will revert to some older rules again now that it doesnt matter.

Vlando ball was all about who had the best kicker, I foresee 2 refs being brought back (mainly due to public pressure) and penalties for ruck infringements, offsides, etc. inside the 50m.

that last bit is what ive been hoping they implement since the start of this whole 6 again saga, maybe even just inside the 20-30m, we saw in the prelims how slow ruck speed can ruin a game, but weve seen all season how this emphasis on the quickest ruck possible can ruin games. They have to try find a balance

wouldn't surprise me if they do something to try and nerf the importance of a quality kicking game, now that we have one

100% they will.... I was hoping that Panthers wouldn't win this year to see if Vlando would keep the charade going for another year.

Unfortunately for them, Reynolds can still kick it miles off kicks for touch and nail 40/20's... so his general kicking will still be a huge asset

I tell you what, you wouldn't want to be an unvaccinated player next year. the NRL have released the requirements for those that refuse to (or are unable to) get vaccinated. they are:
  • wear a mask at all times
  • staying at home. not able to attend pubs, clubs, cafes, restaurants or any other social interaction
  • twice weekly COVID testing
  • daily rapid antigen testing
