They could still play it at a 60,000 seat Allianz stadium. I know they would miss out on another 20,000 or so but that is a small price to pay for not having to manage an 80,000 seat ground which only gets filled once a year. The GF could also be opened up for other major cities to bid for it with certain conditions attached ie suitable capacity ground and having a minimum amount of time to promote it (this probably rules out melbourne at the moment as having it say the week after the afl grand final would be to close and wouldn't allow enough time to promote it properly)
I remember the GF was played at Allianz or whatever it was then called from 1988 - 1998 when its capacity was only 40,000 or so and no one suggested doing anything about that. In fact if we hadn't got the Olympics in 2000 we might still be playing the gf at Allianz as ANZ probably wouldn't have ever been built.
