I was thinking the other day that having centres that are great defenders, but just do their job can almost be better than paying big for strike centres.

A by the books centre would've just done a catch and pass there... the strike centre thinks I'll score it myself instead.

Shiba last night had a lot of by the books plays and just catch and passes to put the winger away, backing up in support, etc.

Mariner a strike centre was getting it in space and going himself... he created some tries out of nothing, but the Bhunt try was a speculator offload because he got caught with the ball on last

Yeah the game is shifting this way it seems. I'd almost argue a strike winger is more important for the finishes, and finding one that is also good at yardage.

I had to look that up because I thought "they can't be that bad".

They are that bad. No matter how many good players they buy, until their defence has some structure they'll always be lurking in the bottom four.
